Strong tremors were felt in the town of Chandrapur including the localities of
Babupeth, Balaji ward, Chotabazaar, Gunj ward, Jatpura gate, Jayant Talkies,
Lalpeth, Pathanpura and Samadhi ward. In the Thakker Colony, kitchen utensils
were diplaced. Employees of the Punjab National Bank and Oriental Insurance
Company left their offices and went outdoors when the tremors were felt.
Although the Geological Survey of India's broadband station in Jabalpur located
the earthquake near Chandrapur with a preliminary magnitude of M4.1, the IMD
indicated it was non-seismic in origin. Local media reports confirm this with
reports of blasting work in the open cast mines of Western Collieries Limited
(WCL) in the Lalpeth area of Chandrapur at 16:20 IST.
