General Policy on Publication

Biomedical Law and Ethics is an interdisciplinary journal of the Ewha Woman’s University Institute for Biomedical Law & Ethics. It is published semiannually in February and August from 2008. It publishes peer-reviewed articles that deal with ethical, legal, and social issues relevant to medicine and life sciences. Our readers include medical professionals, educators, officials, and scholars of diverse fields.

It publishes mainly articles related to biomedical ethics, but also can publish book reviews, translated materials, and special issues based on the decision of editorial committee.

Manuscripts must be written in English and submitted in Word (doc.)

Editorial Board

It consists of one editor-in-chief and four editorial committee members.

The director of the Institute for Biomedical Law & Ethics assigns editorial committee members. Both editor-in-chief and editorial committee members hold the office for two years and can be reappointed.

Review Process

Articles undergo a double-blind review process that is administered by Biomedical Law and Ethics editorial committee. The editorial committee decides at least three appropriate reviewers for each manuscript. When the editorial committee receives comments from three reviewers, it makes the decision whether a manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected.

The authors of a prospective manuscript will be informed of the results of review with comments and guidance on revisions from the reviewers. Upon the arrival of the final revised manuscript and supporting materials, the editorial committee forwards them to reviewers who are responsible for ensuring that the requested revisions have been undertaken. In the light of the comments of the reviewers, Biomedical Law and Ethics editorial committee undertakes a final review of the manuscripts.

Biomedical Law and ethics editorial committee reserves the right to exercise final editorial judgment over any article in any issue.

All accepted manuscripts become the property of Institute for Biomedical Law & Ethics. Authors must obtain any necessary permission for extensive quotations and any other copyrighted material before a paper can be published.

AUTHOR GUIDELINES

All manuscripts must be submitted as email attachments (in MSWord) or if submitted in hard copy to be accompanied by an electronic copy. Their text and notes should be typewritten, double-spaced and prepared according to guidelines in The Chicago Manual of Style, 15th edition. Articles are typically 4,000 to 7,000 words, but longer papers will be considered, provided they are appropriate to the focus of Biomedical Law and Ethics and the additional length is justifiable in the view of the editors and reviewers. Completed articles should be sent to:
