Research Associate or Senior Research Associate:
Cesagen Sociomics Core Facility
Research Associate: £24,877 - £28,839; Senior Research Associate: £30,594 - £35,469
Cesagen is seeking an imaginative and versatile individual to join the team at its digital methods unit, the Sociomics Core Facility (SCF). The SCF develops and applies Web 2.0 digital methods and analytics to provide innovative ways of examining networks, issue formation, indicators, intellectual property, publics, knowledge economies and knowledge production in and around genomics and the biosciences. To do this we use mapping software, databases and text mining tools and we have created our own open source iGoogle style Research Desktop (http://sociomics.lancs.ac.uk/).
You must be able to combine an enthusiasm for digital research methods (e.g. tools for web research, mashups, mapping, visualisation, text-mining and database analysis) with social science and/or humanities research questions on genomics and the biosciences. In return you will join an ESRC funded research centre under the Directorship of Professor Ruth Chadwick that is internationally recognized for excellence in social science and humanities research on genomics and the biosciences (http://www.genomicsnetwork.ac.uk/cesagen/). Cesagen is also the largest node in the wider UK ESRC Genomics Network (http://www.genomicsnetwork.ac.uk/).
Cesagen at Lancaster is led by Associate Director, Professor Brian Wynne, and includes researchers working on nutrigenomics and foods, forensic genomics, proteomics, biodiversity and sustainable development, intellectual property, synthetic biology, animal genomics, human enhancement, security, stem cells and biofuels. We have a strong commitment to international level work with developing countries and informing UN and related policy debates. You will be expected to contribute to our ongoing success through the pursuit and further development of a research agenda focusing on the potential of digital methods in an area relevant to genomics and the biosciences.
The appointment will be at Research Associate (Grade 6) or Senior Research Associate (Grade 7) level, depending on the qualifications and experience of the appointee. Relevant research experience and a good first or second class honours degree is essential. Applicants are requested to make it clear for which grade they are applying.

Hello everyone, I hope all is well with everyone after your return
home from the conference. I really appreciate having met all those of
you who attended, and it was a very fruitful, eye-opening experience
for me that I will never forget.
As I mentioned during my presentation, I am working on a project for
my Senior Thesis in Biology at Hamilton, and I am currently putting
together a survey to be administered before and after a short
informational talk on the basics of genetic information. I was
hoping/wondering if anyone has access to the International Bioethics
Survey used by Dr. Macer and Dr. Azariah during their study, or any
other survey that might be useful to duplicate during my study.
(Seeing as the reproduction of previously used surveys not only is
more credible, but also provides an opportunity for cross-cultural
comparison)
The preliminary survey will focus on assessing the basic knowledge
level about genetic information and the social/political issues that
arise with the development of biotechnology.
So, if anyone has advice or survey questions to offer, I would very
much appreciate it!
Thank you!! Best wishes and peace and OBAMA!!!

Call for Nominations for ABA 2008 nominations and election
For registered ABA members as of 25 October, 2008.
According to the Constitution of ABA every two years there is an election for the Board of ABA. Please see the constitution for reference. In particular articles:
"6.1 Officers of the Association shall be the President, seven vice-presidents (one from each of China, India, Japan, Korea, South Asia (East of India), West Asia (West of India), and Asian Ethnic and Religious Minorities, and a General Secretary. They are nominated and/or elected by members of the Association. The President can serve a maximum of

The closing date for nomination and acceptance of candidates is 25 October. Candidate names and acceptance from the candidates should be Emailed to: asianbioethics@...
In the event that there is only one candidate nominated for each position by 25 October, the position will not needto be subject to election. Every paid up ABA member as of 31 October, 2006, can make one vote for each contested position.

b) Reduced contribution (the amount is up to the member, and is also suggested for students)
This includes the EJAIB journal subscription.
c) No fee, because the person is not in a position to pay the fee.
This does not include a hard copy of the EJAIB journal, but anyone can apply to Eubios Ethics Institute separately for a hard copy of the Journal, to be considered case by case.

Biomedical Law and Ethics is an interdisciplinary journal of the Ewha Woman’s
University Institute for Biomedical Law & Ethics. It is published
semiannually in February and August from 2008. It publishes peer-reviewed
articles that deal with ethical, legal, and social issues relevant to medicine
and life sciences. Our readers include medical professionals, educators, officials,
and scholars of diverse fields.
It
publishes mainly articles related to biomedical ethics, but also can publish
book reviews, translated materials, and special issues based on the decision of
editorial committee.
Manuscripts
must be written in English and submitted in Word (doc.)
Editorial Board
It
consists of one editor-in-chief and four editorial committee members.
The
director of the Institute for Biomedical Law & Ethics assigns editorial
committee members. Both editor-in-chief and editorial committee members hold
the office for two years and can be reappointed.
Review Process
Articles
undergo a double-blind review process that is administered by Biomedical Law
and Ethics editorial committee. The editorial committee decides at least
three appropriate reviewers for each manuscript. When the editorial committee
receives comments from three reviewers, it makes the decision whether a
manuscript should be accepted, revised, or rejected.
The
authors of a prospective manuscript will be informed of the results of review
with comments and guidance on revisions from the reviewers. Upon the arrival of
the final revised manuscript and supporting materials, the editorial committee
forwards them to reviewers who are responsible for ensuring that the requested
revisions have been undertaken. In the light of the comments of the reviewers, Biomedical
Law and Ethics editorial committee undertakes a final review of the
manuscripts.
Biomedical Law and ethics editorial committee reserves the right to exercise final
editorial judgment over any article in any issue.

typically 4,000 to 7,000 words, but longer papers will be considered, provided

additional length is justifiable in the view of the editors and reviewers.
Completed articles should be sent to:

Hi Darryl,
Thanks to you and Soraj for organizing
a wonderful conference in Thailand. It is also my pleasure to thanks
you for arranging communication through this yahoo group discussion
between participants to exchange view even after finishing
conference.
In my country (Bangladesh) research is usually done without ethical
approval in bachelor , Master and even in MPhil level. But the
protocole of PhD level or grant related project only has to pass
through ethical review board. I have a query to every body in the
globe (Asia, Europe, Africa, America, Australia) what is the
situation in thier country about the ethical clearance of each level
of reseach.
Thank You

Dear Darryl,
Thanks again to you, Soraj and the organizing
committee for a wonderful conference! Is there a
deadline for the proceedings volume? I have been
meaning to write out my talk but am scrambling to get
a lot of things done in my last few weeks in India and
I always work better with deadlines (yes, I am a
procrastinator).
I am attaching one picture from our wonderful
entertainment that I hope you will all enjoy. I have
other pictures as well but uploading them takes a
while so I will just send this one. It was a pleasure
meeting you all and I hope our paths cross again soon.
