Episode 01 explores astrobiology and the search for life in the universe, and includes an interview with Dr. Chris McKay from NASA Ames Research Center. Dr. McKay researches the evolution of the solar system and the origin of life and is actively involved in planning for future Mars missions including human exploration.
Episode 02 explores cosmic debris - meteors, asteroids, and comets - and includes an interview with Dr. Peter Jenniskens of the SETI Institute. In 2008, Dr. Jenniskens tracked a small asteroid that hit the Earth and was able to locate pieces of it in the Nubian Desert. This was the first example of a chunk of cosmic material that was both seen coming in and found on the ground after it crashed.
Stay tuned for a new episode of Astronomy Behind the Headlines each month!
