Hello Saqib, Assalamo Alaikum!
One of the biggest telescopes LAST once had (in physical size - it had a bigger than a 10" dia primary mirror) and one that had an impressive resolution as well, was actually *made* by one of our LAST founder members, Irshad Awan. It stayed with another LAST founder member and List-Owner of this mailing list, Omer (OBAA) for quite a while. I wonder what happened to it. The thing was impressive not just because of its size or good resolution but because of the fact that the optical quality primary mirror was also ground and coated by the man himself. It was displayed at the roof of PC at one of the open-to-public observation sessions we used to have. It was a lunar eclipse, I remember. (O' those were the days!) Omer, if you're still here, do you have any of the photographs we took tht day???
Irshad is a graduate of PU in Space Science and later did engineering. The last time I met him, he was working with Siemens in Lahore, and that's a long time ago. But it wouldn't be a bad idea to locate him from the phone number he gave me then (0300-4202653) and try to get a few good tips out of him. (Just mention me and the Lahore Astronomical Society, if you have any difficulty)
Let us know whatever the response.
