I'm just getting into star gazing.  My uncle gave me an old Edmonds cardboard telescope.  When I look at bright stars I see a wavy triangular shape of what appears to be gas or dust off to the side of the star.  I have searched the net and found nothing.  I am obviously a beginner and would very much appreciate help, what am i seeing???

hello to the group,  Has anyone in this group experienced the
phenomenon of a star or planet seemingly moving in the sky? In
particular, Sirius seems to be moving to me every time I'm able to
observe it, but almost all of the other stars and planets seem still.
I have had two other eye witnesses on one occasion.
       I'm convinced that it's an illusion, possibly because of gasses
and or heat waves, or maybe it has to do with eye stigmatisms. Who
knows? I have few clues. I thought the earths atmosphere had
implications on the subject, but it seems to go up and down and wobble
in it's peak as well as when it's just over the horizon. And I have
tried to video the what I was seeing, but my video camera didn't see
things my way.......no movement at all.

folks somebody click on nasa-hubble telescope,find pics of orion
constellation(note the high resolution means you download before
viewing,or use medium mag to view from your browser);invert the
image,and ask yourself,is this object receding or approaching?

Hello fellow members.  Last week at about 645 in the am i took a picture into the sun that was reflecting into the river.  When i developed it, there was a pink square around the sun which also reflected into the river, but was not visible to the naked eye because of the brightness of the sun.  Does anyone have any idea what this could be
