Thank you Paul and David, for your warm encouragements.
Really… the praise and encouragements belong to everyone who
sacrificed their own needs and time to get our Division going. I
cannot stress how much Jisu Kim and Steven Bammel, among many others,
have contributed to the accomplishments we now all see. I'm glad
to be a part of that excellent team. I encourage everyone to come
on board and work to improve and make our Division a special group
that many will envy.
Now on a more specific note:
David, if you could work to gather support from the Korean
interpreters and translators working in the DC area to participate in
the KLD division activities more, that would be a good start. It
could start with a small, informal meeting among the professionals
working in that area. Back in March this year, I had a very
pleasant opportunity to meet and speak with the members of the Korean
Professional Interpreters and Translators (KPIA) in LA during one of
their continuing education seminars. It was an excellent opportunity
to connect and encourage our Korean professionals to join the KLD and
also the upcoming ATA Annual Conference in San Francisco in
November.
On a personal note, I will try to schedule something so that I can
visit and meet with you all in the east coast. I don't' know if I
could swing by before November (ATA Annual Conference), but certainly
afterwards.
To answer your question regarding the list of all the KLD members, we
don't keep a separate list of KLD other than what's listed in the ATA
Directory. The KLD newsletter is posted on the ATA website – just
go to the `Division' link on top and click on Korean Language Division
Thank you once again for your interest in participating in the
Division activities. We are glad to have you. Hope to see many of
you in San Francisco! It will be a good one!
Kind regards,
Vania Haam

Dear Vania,
Congratulations on the fine job you are doing for KLD and Korean
interpreters and translators. You and your dedicated staff are a
source of encouragement and comfort. I look forward to reading the
newsletter asap...
If there is something I can do for you from the Greater Washington,
DC area, let me know. Is it possible to look at the list of all the
KLD members? Do you have a directory?
With all good wishes,
David H. Kim, Ph.D
