Here is a circular answer. to make a bootable DOS
2.5 disk you have to have a bootable DOS 2.5
disk.
Real helpful huh. Check some of the other disk. A lot
of games and utlities used DOS 2.5. The only thing
that made DOS 2.5 better than the rest was it was the
most widely used.
Here is a Quick summary or the
DOS.
DOS 2.0 was single density.
DOS 2.5 was denisty
and 1/2 otherwise just like DOS 2.0.
DOS 3.0 was
2.5 with a lot of extras and short lived also, I
believe, a little buggy.
DOS 4.0 was 2.5 with even more
stuff and some of the bugs worked out and a few
added.
DOS XL was a command line DOS and nice.
DOS XE was
DOS XL with more stuff and I think was double
density.
DOS XE was (is) also really good. It's more
like MSDOS, if you're into that sorta thing.
The
translator disk you'll just have to try. It was a fix for
some of the older games that would only run on the
Atari 800. It actually loads an 800 BIOS over the XL
BIOS.
