Don't miss the Southern Energy & Environment Expo on August 25th-27th! I have attended this event for the past two years and I highly recommend it. They offer displays of alternatively fueled cars such as electric, hybrid, E85, biodiesel, waste vegetable oil, compressed natural gas, etc. There are also workshops on biofuels production, photovoltaics, wind power, solar water heating, hydroelectric power, and energy efficiency.

The Expo takes place at the Western Carolina Agricultural Center in Fletcher, North Carolina, which is near Asheville. Asheville has a lively night life, somewhat like downtown Athens placed in the mountains! Registration for the Expo is $8 per day, and tent/van camping is available for $10 per night at the fairgrounds.
