need new president/forming a biodiesel cooperative   Message List

Ok folks,
I am moving to Michigan this Friday, July 14 and will
no longer be able to fill my function for the Athens
Alternative Fuel Coalition and the athensaltfuel
yahoo group.

We need a volunteer to maintain this yahoo group. The
work involved basically amounts to accepting new
members but weeding out the spammers who want to join.
Takes about one hour a week, if that.

We also need someone to take a leadership role with
this organization. Their first job would be to call a
meeting of The Athens Alternative Fuel Coalition at
Common Ground with the goal of forming a biodiesel
cooperative in Athens.

Forming a cooperative will require organizational
structure and officers and bylaws. The cooperative
will need members who can advise on this, if the
cooperative chooses to form. This is because there is
going to be money involved in a biodiesel cooperative,
and the group will need to have a formal system for
managing its finances.

I would loan my appleseed processor, wash tank, and
parts to build a dry tank/end filtration tank, to the
cooperative, if it chooses to form and adopts an
organizational structure and officers and bylaws. I
could loan it through the end of 2006 and maybe
longer.

I personally feel this would be a great way for Common
Ground Athens to attact new members, by hosting this
project and making biodiesel on-site, at least at
first.

Jeff Rapp, who would be a key member of the
cooperative, has told me that his contact in Jackson
County, between Athens and Jefferson, would still be
interested in hosting the project on their private
property, with the group responsible for building an
outbuilding to house the biodiesel production.

What I need from the group right now, is people who
are interested in this, to speak up right now over the
email. If enough people are interested, someone from
the group will need to pick up my processor and host
it through the end of 2006. Otherwise, it moves with
me to Michigan.

Good luck all, I will miss you all!!! Thank you to
Scott and Anne for forming the group, and thank you to
Jeff Rapp especially, for the inspiration to build the
biodiesel processor.
Ryan
