Job Description:
The mission of the Application Management group is to manage the PeopleSoft
Financials and HRMS applications. We are looking for an Oracle Database
Administrator that will augment our team of Database Administrators.
Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and maintaining several
databases; establishing policies and procedures pertaining to the management,
security, maintenance, and use of the PeopleSoft application databases; and
training employees in database management and use. Will perform software
installations, database performance tuning, capacity planning, and database
monitoring. Assist in the development of logical and physical database models.
Provide technical support to development team members. Manage and support the
Oracle Production databases and related structures. Handle the technical aspects
of one or more databases including 24X7 availability/reliability. Will support
multiple servers and multiple databases.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Reviews, develops, and designs data models using standard diagramming
techniques, in conjunction with application development teams; creates logical
data models and translates into physical database structures that integrate with
existing or proposed database structures.
2. Monitors relational databases to optimize database performance, resource use,
and physical implementations of databases; addresses a variety of database
integration issues including migration between disparate databases, integration,
maintenance/conversion, capacity planning issues, and new applications.
3. Maintains development, test, and production RDBMS environments.
4. Monitors and maintains database security and database software, in
cooperation with data security administrators.
5. Provides advice to applications programmers in the effective use of database
languages; advises on troubleshooting, exception processing needs, and other
data management issues.
6. Maintains availability and integrity of databases through multiple access
schemes; facilitates sharing of common data by overseeing proper key and index
management and data dictionary maintenance.
7. May evaluate and recommend testing and evaluation of new procedures,
software, and hardware.
8. Monitors and manages database backups, logs, and journals; installs,
maintains, and upgrades database software; restores and/or recovers data as
required.
9. Creates, procures and maintains various database related documents such as
manuals and programmers handbooks.
10. May provide 24 hour on-call support.
11. Maintains a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art technology, equipment,
and/or systems.
12. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
• Ability to interpret data models and to develop database structures.
• Ability to use standard diagramming techniques to design and develop computer
data models.
• Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications.
• Ability to program, configure, manage, and maintain the operation of complex
relational databases.
• Ability to develop and manipulate large, complex data sets.
• Knowledge of computer and/or network security systems, applications,
procedures, and techniques.
• Knowledge of data integrity methods and techniques.
• Technical writing skills.
• Ability to perform acceptance testing on computer systems, applications, and
hardware.
• Ability to install, maintain, modify, and upgrade database software.
• Ability to operate on a scheduled 24-hour on-call basis.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and leadership to professional personnel
in area of expertise.
Required Skills:
Minimum 4+ years of Oracle DBA experience, of which 2 years as PeopleSoft DBA.
6+ years of IT experience preferably in a Sun Solaris environment
Oracle 8/9i Experience
Experience administering PeopleSoft 7 and 8.x Oracle databases
Knowledge of Unix Shell Scripting
Must have experience on both PeopleSoft Financial and HR databases.
Must be familiar with PeopleSoft Schemas/objects.
Experienced with PeopleSoft SQL code tuning.
Experience with large databases ( Atleast 200 Gigabytes )
Experience with RMAN software
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Strong problem solving skills.
Minimum Years of experience needed for required skills: 8
Preferred Skills: Experience in OLAP and Data Warehousing database architectures
is a plus
Experience with prior PeopleSoft Application Upgrades is a Plus
Experience with EMC SNAP, time finder and SRDF software is a plus
Experience with Control M scheduling Software is a Plus.
