If there are a few of you out there lurking that would like to get this group
going again and go through the patterns like has been done 2 or 3 times before
here in Atlanta, speak up. Someone will have to take charge to guage interest,
select a meeting location and time, and make it happen. This is a
self-organizing group.
Someone who has done it before will show you how to get started. In the links

I believe the Design Patterns Study Group has completed its study. I do not
think it is still active

Thanks very much to everyone for your replies. My intention is to be
able to market myself as a true consultant.
The advice has been very helpful.
Thanks again.

Roger,
There are indeed some useful books out there. I'm not sure whether they cover
all the points you
mentioned in your criteria but you should check out anything by Gerald Weinberg
most notably
'Secrets of Consulting' and 'Are Your Lights on?'. There are plenty of other
titles by Gerald that
you should also look at. Nearly every decent book store carries them. 'Secrets
of Consulting' is
probably one of the most widely read books by consultants. It is a light read
but filled with
useful information.
You might also want to check out Pete Drucker's 'The Effective Excutive.' Whilst
not specifically
on the subject of consulting it does contain a lot of useful information as
well. Again, it is a
quick read.

Roger,
I don't think there will be anything worth while
specifically for that, but what you could do is use
different type of books to come to a base
understanding. What I would look for is project
management books so you can adequately anticipate what
the work is going to entail. Sales books to be able to
represent yourself better and small business books to
help run the company.

Hi All,
I am looking for some good books to help me get
started in technology consulting (such as the service
provided by companies like E&Y, Deloitte etc)
If anyone has used Janet Ruhl's books, how did it work for you?
I am mostly looking for the skills needed to become a
consultant, developing a portfolio, how to network,
etc.
Thanks
Roger

patterns to go in the GOF book. Our next meeting will be on Monday

Hello Friends!
I am facing a bit of a confusion regarding use cases. Thogh I
understand clearly <<EXTEND>> AND <INCLUDE>> are both stereo type
and also clearly understand their definations. I also know the UML
diagrams for both these mechanisms. Actually i want to express them
in the description of my base uses for these usecases i.e the usecase
which we are including and extending.
My problem is that:
how can we express both EXTEND and INCLUDE mechanism in our base
usecase description and where ?
* how our base use case is including other use cases in description?
* do we need to define the inculde mechanism in Main Success Scenario?
* do we need to define the extend mechanism in Extension clause or
Alternate Flow?
Will appreciate examples to the above mentioned questions.
Thank you
Folks,
I apologize, but something has come up and I won't be able to attend
the meeting tonight. If someone can please take over moderating, I
would be very grateful.
Thanks.
