All my music is stored on an 'openlink'ed Linkstation. I used to have a cron
job running every day on the Linkstation but like others have mentioned,
since my collection is fairly stable I now run the TOC generator manually
whenever there's a need.

I use the Whirlycott Audiotron TOC Generator PERL script by Philip Jacob,
which I extended to automatically generate a number of playlists, very much
like the smart playlists of iTunes. I haven't updated the script since 2005
so I guess it fulfills my needs.

The Whirlycott code to 'kick' the Audiotron has alway worked for me
(Audiotron V3.11) although now I don't use it anymore. When I generate a new
TOC & playlistst I do a full reinstall by switching the AT off and on again.

I run the script on the ActiveState Perl interpreter for Windows. Works on
Vista without a problem. However getting the script to work on your server
does require some knowledge of PERL.

Brian,

I'm pretty sure I am running the latest firmware that was released and your latest TOCmaker too, but that didn't seem to help.  Maybe I was just "user-challenged".  :)

That -k option was always a problem, it was firmware version dependent.
I believe the version of TOCMaker I distribute now works with the final
firmware that got released, but probably not earlier versions.

I used to do that, but the -k (or "kick" option) that I used to update the Atron never ever worked.  Besides, I don't think you can just do the automated thing anymore unless you disable your internet access so that the damn thing doesn't query that particular site that TB no longer owns.

YMMV.

Thanks. I was able to finally get my Audiotron and Windows 7 talking to each
other by setting the following and recycling the atron password on Windows 7. I
didn't need to turn OFF protected password sharing, either.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\LmCompatibilityLevel = 0

and

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\NoLmHash = 0

Been running Windows 7 for a while now and have no issues accessing it from the
Autiotron.

In the Advanced sharing settings, the only option I changed from the default as
far as I can remember was to check:

'Turn off password protected sharing'

Hello,

For those interested in testing my app. I'm just about ready to
release it into the wild...but I'll be trying it on a few other
devices here first.

To get you set up to be able to install an app through adHoc
distribution I need the following information:

To send your device ID to a developer for test-program registration:
    1. Launch iTunes.
    2. Connect your device to your computer.
    3. Select the device in the Devices list.
    4. In the Summary pane, click the Serial Number label. It changes
to Identifier.
    5. Choose Edit > Copy.
    6. Email your device identifier to the developer.
Be sure to include your name and device name in the email.

Here's some screen caps for the meantime, spartan but handy. The
blue buttons allow you to drill down further. In the deeper levels you
still can drill down, but you can also highlight items and hit the +
to add to the cue or the play to clear the cue, if stopped, and add
the selected item to the cue. The settings page is accessible from
the top level. The remote control view is accessible via the upper
right icon in every view.

Updating the TOC....well unfortunately the Audiotron is really slow
dumping it's TOC. My TOC has ~4000 entries and it takes about 5.5
minutes to complete uploading. There's just no other way around
it....that I've thought of.

Yes, I do have the Big Ben Banjo Band in my music library :)

Has anyone here tried accessing a Windows 7 machine from the AudioTron?

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and every time I try to check for files, I
get "Share Access Denied". The Atron sees the shares, but can not access them.

I am able to successfully connect to the share from a Win XP laptop using the
same user/password as defined in the Atron.

serving up 44.1k/16bit audio to it so any status requests sent to the
audiotron significantly delayed in their response.

Anyway, I've run into a snag with pulling the radio station list via
the API. All I'm seeing in the API spec is the getinfo.asp that

or is there no further info in the API docs? I'm not even sure what
it would want to see if I were to try and add a station to the queue?

What I do have working so far...
Pulling the TOC from the audiotron, storing it locally, and giving a
nice hierarchical table view with two main branches:
1) Artist -> Album -> Tracks
2) Genre -> Artist -> Album -> Tracks.

There's a config page with a raw data window so you can test your
settings and see that it's responding to the http requests. The only
part that's shaky is getting a TOC dump from the audiotron. My TOC
has over 3K songs in it and it takes about 3 minutes for the full
transfer. I've not yet implemented a progress bar so you just have to
wait and hope that it's working.. :) It has all the shuttle control
buttons plus an add to the play queue button. At some point in the
near future I might want to get some testers on board so let me know
if you are interested.

Any tips on accessing the stations via the API would be much
appreciated!

P.S.:  a future enhancement that would be nice would be support for multiple audiotrons on a single iPhone.  Not to try to launch them simultaneously or anything; just to be able to control the one in the living room and the one in the family room without having to change the IP in the settings.

P.P.S.:  I am loving the group activity.

Will check out MusicDNS & Lyricwiki.  Currently evaluating last.fm as well.

There may be some ways to make search work with the API.  I'll check it out.  Might have to wait for V2.

The RCA jack (analog) output of the Audiotron is perhaps the weakest design
feature of the device. It uses a not very high quality chip designed for
headphones, so it is actually a power amplifier chip (albeit a low powered one).
This chip also drives the headphone jack on the front of the unit. The volume
knob (if set in the software to control volume instead of song position)
controls the volume of the analog output, both the front headphone jack and the
rear RCA jacks. The remote control can also control the volume of the analog
outputs.

By contrast, the S/PDIF optical output is a higher sound quality output. Its
drawbacks are that there is no way to control the volume of the S/PDIF output,
and, of course, it is digital only.

If you have your Audiotron connected to an older receiver or home theater
without an optical input, then you have two alternatives - use the analog, low
quality RCA jacks, or buy a digital to analog converter and use the S/PDIF jack.
Most of the digital to analog converters are intended for high end audiophile
use and are ridiculously expensive. However, about a year ago, I found a small,
$80 unit on EBay that works very well and was a noticeable sound quality upgrade
from the analog RCA jacks. I have it hanging off the back of my unit, but it is
actually small enough to put inside the Audiotron if you have any electronics,
handyman knowhow.

Note however, that none of my Audiotrons have a low sound output problem, nor
does the S/PDIF output sound noticeably louder or softer than the analog output
(if the Audiotron volume is turned up). Your Audiotron might be defective. You
said that you turned the volume on the Audiotron all the way up - but it never
hurts to try that one more time and make sure that the Audiotron software
defaults are set so that the big knob controls volume, not song position. Try
setting the volume with the knob, and if that does not work, also try it with
the Audiotron remote control. Other things you can try include: Your RCA jacks
(on the AT or the receiver) could be defective, or your RCA cable could be
defective. You might check the input and output jacks and cable to make sure
there is no oxidation on the metal contact points. Try a different cable. Try
plugging the Audiotron into a different set of inputs on your Sony receiver.
Lastly, try rebooting the Audiotron (turn off the power switch on the rear
panel).

Everyone who replied (direct or via the list) should have received a
direct reply from me.
One piece of positive feedback and no negative so far.

Yes, I am using RCA plugs as my Sony receiver does not have a S/PDIF connection.

When using RCA plugs for the Audiotron, are there any straight forward options for making the Audiotron output volume louder or perhaps a way to decrease the volume of my Tuner input? I want to be able to switch from the Audiotron input to the Tuner input and back without always having to adjust the volume.

I don't think there is a solution, but wanted to ask in case someone has solved this minor annoyance.

How are you connecting to your Sony amplifier, RCA or S/PDIF?  If you are using the RCA outputs of the audiotron you would be much better off switching to the optical and that would likely increase the volume.  The turtle beach is notorious for having a weak analog output.

I increased my audiotron volume to its highest setting, but it doesn't have an "11" volume setting as in Spinal Tap.

Anyway, what are my options for balancing the volume output?

Paul, Count me in also.
I am very computer and network savy, would love to give this whole thing a try..
Thanks, Phil

If you are pretty good at network stuff (understand static IP
addressing and know how to find own details) then drop me a not if you
fancy giving this a try.
