Hi everyone,
The company that I work for, is looking to upgrade the server to 2003.
My question is, Has anybody had any problems using Windows Server
2003 w/ AutoCAD 2002/2004?, and if so what are the to problems you
have seen?
Thank You,
Kyle C.
Hi everyone,
I am have a problem with a hatch pattern not showing up in one of
our .dwg files.
I have looked in the boundary hatch dialog box and it is missing, but
If I open a different .dwg file the hatch pattern shows up.
I am using win2000pro and AutoCAD2002
I hope you can help
Kyle
> 1. How do you place/make your planting legend in autocad?
I run a lisp routine that counts all of the blocks on a drawing and
outputs that data to Excel. I have named all of my plant symbol
blocks so when I switch to Excel, the names are already there with
the counts. I then add the size and latin name by accessing an Access
database. Then I just insert it into my drawing.
> 2. How do you do irrigation design?
I have made blocks for each type of sprinkler head with coverage
circles. It is very simple to layout the heads. Then I use the same
lisp to count the sprinkler head types in excel, add GPM, divide into
zones, ect. It's not as elegant as Landcadd, but landcad costs a
fortune and takes forever to configure for irrigation.
>
> 3. Plant blocks - do you have an master plant block file, so you
can always use the same block to be the same plant for all your
projects or do you just use any block for that project. I.E. a circle
w/ a soild box is alway Rhaphiolepis indica?
I use a master plant block file with common names.
> 4. How do you set up you drawings?
I am the lone landscape arch. in an architect's office, so I am
always working with drawings that are edited by multiple users. We
xref all of our drawings and submit revision notices to one another
so that we know if a drawing has been changed that affects another's
work.
> 5. Have you made custom line types that likes like the old
formaline
> tape?
No.
> 6. Do you do color rendering plots w/ autocad and m-color software?
> How easily/hard is it to use?
No, I used to use Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator to render when I
was in school. I have Landcad at home and it came with some kind of
rendering add-on that I have not tried yet.

Just the one for plant counts.
> 8. Have you used the raster design program from autodesk? How

No.
Tiago,
I don't know the answer to your question, but you may want to try a
free software program that is a raster to vector conversion.
It is called wintopo, go to google and type in wintopo and it will
take you to the web site.
I hope this will help

I'm a Urban Planning student and usualy we have to vectorize raster
images by hand. Usualy the process is line/pan/line/pan, etc...
I would be usefull that there were a lisp wich would recenter the
work space to the last point inserted, each time a line is drawn.
Do any of you know of such a tool??

Greeting,
I am a new member, a professional Landscape architect
from the Philippines. I am cuurently in a Landscape
design firm which is now venturing in design and CADD
services to large international Landscape design firms
which is very benificial to both parties since
outsourcing the CAD works would leave your compny to
concentrate on its core service which is design.
Another factor is the CAD rates here in the
philippines are much lower however we assure you that
the CAD standards here is stringent and the quality of
work is at par with that of established countries. A
clear indication of such is the rising number of
Filipino CAD operators abroad. Another advantage is
that being also a Landscape Design firm, CAD
production and checking can be done easily as the
personnel we have speciailzes in Landscaping.
The Philippines is now being marketed as a global
outsourcing hub for companies related to the IT
industry and Call centers and they are very much
satisfied with the work being done here.
The same can be done to this industry as Landscape
Architecture big names such as Belt Collins have
already hooked up with a local firm for thier job
outsourcing we hope that you could take us into
consideration too.
for those interested please reply in order for us to
give you our company profile

Hi guys,
I am looking for a lisp or a VBA program that will total up the
(gpm) gallons per minute for an irrigation plan.
I have the irrigation sprayhead symbols made as blocks with
attributed infromation in it, the attributed info in the block is
the model of the sprayhead, the gpm's that sprayhead is, and the
unit price of the sprayhead.
So what I looking for is a lisp(s)/VBA to do two things.
The first is to be like the "bcount" command build into AutoCAD and
have it count up all the blocks that I either selected or placed a
window around and display the total gpm's for that system.
The second one is to be able to select the blocks one by one and as
I do this it adds up the gpm's on the screen or on the command line,
so I can size the irrigation pipe.
I am using AutoCAD 2002
I hope you can help me or if not maybe you can direct me to someone
who can
Thank for your help

ARTICLE
The projection of upper cabinet, bookshelf or display shelf above
your head can kill your working efficiency especially if it is very
close to your head or near to your working table.
Working continuously under any kind of projection reduces the
concentration level as well as it brings irritation especially if one
sits for more than 2 to 3 hours, which directly affects the work.
Unfortunately, majority of people are not aware of this problem and
they simply suffer because of their ignorance.
It is observed that in many offices for saving the space or for
creating more storage area, the working tables are designed such a
way that it directly comes below the upper cabinet. This kind of
design looks very convenient and easy to operate but actually it
affects the person sitting below.
One will never realize it immediately as the negative effects come
very slowly. Even for students or learners who sit below the
projection, it is observed that they loose the patience and it
affects the grasping power, which indirectly results into less output
in examination especially for competitive course studies. ACCORDING
TO Vaastu Shastra WORKING UNDER ANY TYPE OF PROJECTION CAN BRING
MENTAL TENSION AND RESTLESSNESS. IT DIRECTLY AFFECTS ACADEMIC
PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS ALSO.
Vaastu Shastra, is an Indian Vedic science, which deals with
architectural designing and placement of building structure, strongly
advises to avoid any kind of projection above your head or working
table.
As per Vaastu Shastra solution for this problem is very easy. One
should take care to avoid upper cabinets, beam or any type of
projection above or around him. This will directly help to improve an
individual's performance.

Hello all!
I am a novice landscaper and intermediate Autocad user living in St.
Pete, FLorida looking to combine the two so I can get out of this
unemployment rut!
I am 34 ,the bulk of my professional experience is in music
distribution but that got old fast. Ironically, since I have been
unemployed, I enrolled in St. Pete College for AutoCAD and in my
abundance of spare time, I started landscaping some of the properties
around my neighborhood, along with the owners of course! I'm not
some "Robin Hood" landscaper! HaHaHa!Anyway, that's my brief history
and I'm stickin to it!

Markus,
Try PrintAPlot® Pro from SignatureCAD
If I remember right It will let you view .plt files
www.SignatureCAD.com
You can also look into software that the plotter company oce has,
that I know will let you view .plt file but I've forgotton the name
of the software.
I hope I have help you.
Cheers

Hi everyone,
I have some plotting issues as well. Large prints we don't plot in-
house - we send them out to a print service as a plt-file.
But most of the time something doesn't work exactly the way I want
it - and so when the print gets out of the machine at the print
service it's often too late to change anything.
Here is my question: Is there a tool or program to view those plt-
files before I send them out? Or even something for free to download?
And there is another problem - I can't explain. It doesn't happen on
our small printer in the office but on the larger plotters such as
the HP 1050: It prints text written in model space outside of the
viewport - and it only happens with text. Is there a reasonable
explanation for this?
Thanks for your help,
Markus.

Hello,
In hopes someone might respond to my plotting question; I'll be glad
to trade some tips.
On planting & irrigation:
We typically use legend templates that have been Cadded-up we have 3
or 4 boiler-plate files that the designer will 'save-as' to his/her
project folder and edit per project. The file is then xref'd into
paper space. Our sheet styles and formats are based off a 'typical'
building architectural sheet set up (plan drawing space to the left
side of the sheet with a 6" margin down the right for
legend/keynotes. We put legends on each sheet regardless if it's two
sheets of planting or twenty. Planting symbols for trees are
retreived from a block library as are shrubs. We've standardized
shrub symbol sets for 3',4',5',6',8',10' on-center spacing
regardless of scale.
Irrigation
We will usally do all our irrigation design in-house. Our typical
drill is to have the designer use both hand and cadd drafting.
Designer will 'head-out' the landscape areas with irrigation head
symbol blocks with a coverage radius we place on a layer that will
be frozen later..once complete and a hard copy plotted the designer
will circuit by hand, and rough in mainline alignments...then the
hard copy is input into the computer and pipe sized. All equipment
symbols are brought in via a 'master template block' with all
equipment symbol block and layers....this master symbol block is
then exploded in the drawing file to allow the designer access to
the individual block symbols.
Dwg formats
Since we landscape architects are typically at the bottom of the
consultant food chain...
We'll get a base map file and do a 'save-as' our project base file.
The drawing is 'conditioned' changing layer colors to our plotter
pen format information frozen or thawed and the file purged. The
cadd tech will then save the current layer-state in the layer
manager....a god send for a projaect manager when you get the
inevitable 11th hour file update from the civil or architect. The
base file is then xref'd into the irrigation plan, planting plan,
constuction plan etc. in model space. We do all plans in model space
then insert title blocks, legends etc. in paper space. We draft in
model space and plot in paper space.
Raster imaging
I've done two projects with a raster overlay as the base map.
Scaned the hard copy civil precise grading plan and cadded
irrigation and planting on top of the raster image that was asigned
a sreened pen weight...just like the good ol' days of pin-bar.
We've also done some 'gorilla-cad' base maps by scanning hardcopies
and cad-tracing over them.
All the best,
Phil

Hi Kyle,
I'll try - but sometimes I'm very busy (e.g. creating linetypes,
plant blocks etc.) Right now I'm doing an irrigation plan by hand.

Hi Everyone,
For some unknown reason the member of this group don't know that you
sould be posting your question and/or experiences using autocad in
the field of Landscape Architecture.
So therfore, I will try to get the message posting going.
1. How do you place/make your planting legend in autocad?
Do you just make a legend in autocad, do you using excel or another
program and bring it in as a OLM, or do you using a third party
software that makes legend.
2. How do you do irrigation design?
Do you print out the design, hand design it, scan it in and then draw
it in cad, do you do it in autocad, or do you do it in a third party
like landcadd
3. Plant blocks - do you have an master plant block file, so you can
always use the same block to be the same plant for all your projects
or do you just use any block for that project. I.E. a circle w/ a
soild box is alway Rhaphiolepis indica?
4. How do you set up you drawings?
Do you use xrefing, or do you just insert everything into the your
drawing.
5. Have you made custom line types that likes like the old formaline
tape?
6. Do you do color rendering plots w/ autocad and m-color software?
How easily/hard is it to use?
7. Do you have any Lisp programs that will help you do grading,
irrigation, or slope factoring for plant counts?
8. Have you used the raster design program from autodesk? How
easily/hard is it to use?
Please remember you deal w/ most of these questions on a daily bases
and I started this group to learn how other LA use autocad, so far
all I have seen is people joining on day and quiting the next. So
help us all out and lets start posting questions.

Hello,
Anyone out there have any experience using release 14 on Win2000 or
XP and plotting to a HP Designjet via TCP/IP?
We've been slowly working an upgrade towards Acad 2002. I still use
r14 daily. Is there a patch out there that will augment the HP
driver for r14 to recognize a TCP/IP port....along with serial,
parallel and network ports it already sees?
Thanks for any input
Markus,
Sorry it took so long to answer you question.
Do you have the express tools ver 1-9? I don't know if it was out in
europe.
If you do, go to the text pull down, then to text mask, and follow
the command line directions.
I haven't used this myself, so tell me how it goes.
I hope this helps

I haven't worked with AutoCad 2000 that much ... but here is my
question:
I want to put text in areas with a lot of lines, like pavement
pattern - but no hatch (so it is going to be hard to read). Is there
a way to make it more readable with cutting off all those single
lines around the text ?
or without to put some wipe-out-areas behind the text ?
I'm just thinking of some Adobe programs where you can fill the text
frame with "white" which hides everything behind. Is there something
similar in AutoCad 2000?
Can somebody help ? Would appreciate it.
