Pat,

That sounds kind of "creepy" to me. I assume you are thinking of using this
as a way to increase revenues??? I can't put my finger on it, but just
don't like the way it sounds.

I want to hear from you Texans and those going to convention. Are you
going to dress up, as requested, as your favorite western character for
the Fri evening banquet.? Is there a move on to get the Texans to
participate? I don't want to be the only one looking somewhat ridiculous.
It's always fun, but last year the participation was a little lean.

Well, if was not broken they why fix it? Are you aware that Peter's 12-36-14
is a Urea nitrogen based fertilizer, that in it's self is a reason not to use
it. Plus, Dyna - Gro is totally complete with all the needed elements in it.
You will not get near that with the Peter's formula. By the way violets and
Urea based fertilizers do not get along.

Darryl Hoover of California is the hybridizer of your plant 'California
Sunset.' Darryl is a small hybridizer that has very high standards for all the
plants that he releases. He did release a very nice trailer last year too. It
is call White Magic Trail. It can be purchased from Shirley's House Of
Violets. I bought it last year and I'm impressed with it so far.

That sounds great. I can send you my current list. It will grow dramatically when I inventory my little plants I started from leaves and when the violets I ordered for inventory for 1999 come in. I won't have time to do any leaf swapping til after we get back from vacation 4/17.The weather should hopefully be more stable then anyway. Here comes my list! Hope to see yours too. Linda Stickney

Hi Group!, I would like to clarify my writing about neem on 3/24. My info.
about neem "claiming to be a broad spectrum pesticide as well as a fungicide,
and miticide" came directly from Peaceful Valley Farm Supply 1999 catalog,
from their info on neem. I failed to credit them for this info.I have used this
product only for thrips. I do not make any claims on how it works on other
pests. I have never had a problem with its availability. The price is 16.99 for
160z which makes 5 and 1/3 gallons of spray. I spray every 3 wks. and have not
had any problems with a residue being left behind and harming the plants. It is
always important to make sure you use the appropriate product, no matter what
you are using.sincerely,Alice D.

The reason why this is happening is because their is either a cliche in Microsoft Oulook 98 or there is a problem with the mailing lists.  There are to many people having the same problem for this to be the fault of the user.  I am one of those people who didn't catch it right away.  I know that it is not just to this list because I have the same problem with the Visual Basic Programming List.

========================

Virus Hits Internet

By Dick Satran

SAN FRANCISCO (Reuters) - A virus that spreads a list of pornography
sites
via e-mail hit computers over the weekend
and threatened havoc Monday as workers return to offices and begin
opening
messages sent over the Internet.

The virus, called ``Melissa,'' comes in the form of a document that lists

pornography sites on the World Wide Web.

Microsoft itself has simply warned users to ``be careful about what runs
on
their machine,'' the New York Times reported.
Carnegie Mellon said, ``our analysis indicates that human action (in the
form of a user opening an infected Word document)
is required for this virus to activate.''

The virus can be identified, Network Associates said, because it will
read
``Important Message From
Application.UserName.'' The body of the text reads ``Here is that
document
you asked for ... don't show anyone else'' and
contains a list of pornographic Web sites.

Computer experts said the virus was aimed at widely used Microsoft
Windows-based e-mail address book software,
Outlook and Outlook Express, and it can send up to 50 additional versions
of
the e-mail to other users, threatening a
widespread infection of computer systems.

That could create a flood of unwanted e-mails around the Internet as the
program perpetuates itself using pre-programmed
''macros,'' software embedded in the Windows operating system that sets
off
complex computer functions with one command.

``It could grow explosively and shut down e-mail systems as a side
effect,''
Eric Allman, co-founder of the Emeryville,
Calif.-based Sendmail, a widely used provider of e-mail services, said in
an
interview Sunday.

A number of leading software security firms and academic experts posted
warnings about the e-mail threat, including
Network Associates, the leading anti-virus software maker.

``Melissa is widely reported and spreading quickly via mass e-mail, a
function of the viral infection,'' said Network
Associates based in Santa Clara, Calif.

Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute issued an
advisory, which said, ``The number and variety of
reports we have received indicate that this is a widespread attack
affecting
a variety of sites.''

The only damage the virus causes is that it replicates itself and creates
a
flood of e-mail, though it apparently does not hurt
the computer itself, experts said.

The real danger is that the virus will overwhelm the server computers
that
handle computer messaging systems, which could
lead to system shutdowns as each e-mail multiplies itself 50 times.
Already,
a wave of the e-mails has been sent out and
awaits office workers Monday morning.

``It's not doing malicious things or removing files or anything like
that,''
Allman said. ``I've heard claims that it has been
doing more but I haven't seen any substantial verification of that. It's
really more of a wake-up call, that shows us how you
could take a malicious virulent virus and reproduce it all over the place

very quickly.''

Computer experts warned users to be wary of documents sent from any
senders
asking them to open up a file for Microsoft
Word. That file, in turn, asks for a prompt asking users whether they
want
to initiate a ``macro,'' and requires users to
approve its use. Those checkoffs make it relatively easy to avoid the
problem.

Melissa creates the following entry in the registry:
HKEYCURRENTUSER/Software/Microsoft/Office/''Melissa?''

Network Security said that to avoid the risk of contracting the Melissa
virus, ``it is recommended that network administrators
and users upgrade their anti-virus software to include detection and
cleaning for W97M/Melissa.''

Network Security posted information about the virus on its the Web site
of
its Avert Labs division
(http://www.avertlabs.com), Sendmail also posted advice on the Melissa
problem at http://www.sendmail.com and
Carnegie Mellon posted information on its site as well
(http://www.cert.org).

Computer experts said that if advisories were followed, the problem would

probably not become a widespread worry.

``I suspect we'll see a day or two of extremely high e-mail loads and
then
it will just die out, so in some sense this virus is
not that critical but it's one what demonstrates what could happen if a
truly malicious virus were released,'' Sendmail's
Allman said. ``The ability to spread something so broadly is scary.''

Lynda -- can you PLEASE check into this? I know this had
happened once before and you were able to get it
straightened out.

I do not use Microsoft Outlook. I recently changed to
Windows 98 but think this started after that -- I do not
think it was an instantaneous change.

So -- just as a thought in passing -- could Melissa have
done this??????

No, Jackie, you're not an old stick in the mud.

Many people prefer to clutter up the list with messages of a personal
nature. For instance, when I wish to exchange leaves with someone, I don't
tell the whole list. I simply contact the individual. It's really easy,
folks. Try it!

Likewise with people on this and other lists I "visit" with via email once
or twice a week. I write them individually. We sometimes share matters that
are personal nature or is a topic that is not of interest to most members of
a list.

If the topic is of interest to most members of this or another list, I will
email the message to the entire list.

The reason that you are having this problem is that the AVConnectionn
list processor is now adding the line:
"Reply-To: avconnectionn@egroups.com" to all messages. When you reply
to the sender, it goes to the "reply-to" address instead of the
original sender. If you want to change that feature, then they have to
stop adding that line to the list messages.

Lisa: No problem. I can't do any leaf swaps til we get back 4/17 anyway. Did I e-mail you my list? It will expand greatly by May 1st and throughout the summer. Everyone seems to be getting 'leaf swapping fever'. It's a terminal condition you know! TTYL! Linda Stickney

The Reply-To addition is also the reason we are getting a lot of
messages intended for individuals posted to the list. With most
popular mail programs it's difficult to reply to the individual -- you
need to write down the e-mail address, then type it into to To: box.

Hello,

Actually, there is more known. Seems that a lot of people are creating
slightly varied versions that you have to be careful of too.

Also, turns out it puts the Micro into your Word so that if you create a
word document, then send it email, it will send copies to 50 people! Is
creating problems for some companies with confidential information being
sent all over the place!

So, if you got it, be sure to eliminate it fully.

Cordially,
Carl Walker

The reason why this is happening is because their is either a cliche in Microsoft Oulook 98 or there is a problem with the mailing lists.  There are to many people having the same problem for this to be the fault of the user.  I am one of those people who didn't catch it right away.  I know that it is not just to this list because I have the same problem with the Visual Basic Programming List.

Or, you can click on the "from" information & highlight it with your
mouse, right-click & select "copy" and then start new mail & paste the
information in the TO: field. -It depends on what mail program you're
using, but this option works for me.
