The main purpose of data warehousing is provide reporting
capabilities so that management can take correct decisions. The
various components of data warehousing such as ETL, STAR Scheme
Database design, OLAP reports finally should help a user get rich
analysis of the data. There are certaing resource links available
from avenuesinc.com web site which would help any new comer
understand the data warehousing concepts.
Good Luck.

The core of the data warehousing is the STAR Schema data model. This is
also called multi dimensional modeling. It primarily consists of
Dimension Table and Fact tables.
Dimensions could be Customer, Product, Geography, Time etc.
Facts consist of items such as Sales, Cost, Revenue etc.
Once the STAR Schema is designed, it becomes easier to create adhoc
reports using OLAP tools (such as Cognos, MicroStrategy, Business
Objects etc.)

first of all we have to collect data of all employees then we have to
link them up by making suitable tables. After that we have to go
through each of them, inorder to eliminate redundancy (i.e repition of
data).for this we need to follow 1st to fifth normalisation .

Hi All,
I would say its better to goto Oracle site and read through the Data Warehouse
and understand first How it can be done with Oracle. By reading DWH under
Oracle site you will understand the whole concept of Data Warehousing as well
as how it could be carried out by using just Oracle, mainely the terms like
ETL, etc....
Use this link given below:
http://www.stanford.edu/dept/itss/docs/oracle/9i/server.920/a96520.pdf
And if any one has any perticular questions which you cant follow after reading
them let me know... sure I can help you.
And no one can help you with out putting some effort like reading !!!
As a breif, I am doing DWH since last 6 years.... mainely on the ETL side using
tools like Informatica.
Thanks,
Ravi

Hi,
For all newbie's in data warehousing, the best way to start is to
understand the basics of Database concepts and data warehousing
concepts.
A through understanding of basic database skills is must before anyone
can understand data warehousing.
To understand basic of data warehousing, Lifecycle Toolkit by Ralph
Kimball is a good start book.
http://www.dmreview.com/portals/portal.cfm?topicId=230055 is also a
good link to start with..

If anyone is having database performance problems in a data warehousing
application, we would like to hear about it. By using certain specific
software tools and techniques, the performance may be improved
tremendously.
Yes. it's really very helpful to learn the DW details.
