The best book to get you up and running quickly. Irrespective of which
paradigm you come from.
Why? Because I like it. :)

Since you are coming from the Java world , you might want to look at
http://clojure.org/
It's the dialect of lisp targeting the JVM. Which might be a
compelling reason to look at it considering your background.
And since its on JVM , it can be the trojan horse to get lisp into
your organisation (assuming you want to and the organisation is
resisiting :D , the organisation is pro JVM etc., etc.)
If none of the above points apply then you might want to check out
common lisp. As good as any. But if you are looking at industrial
strength implementations then you might want to also look at SBCL ,
Lispworks.
Looking for an editor? Look no further. You have emacs. (written in
elisp -- a derivative of lisp)

You could try (uses Scheme):

There was the first public release of the same year or so back
.Have not heard much after that.Guess it still is in "Work in progress" state.

Try out highly rated 6.001 Structure and Interpretation of Computer ProgramsÂ
from MIT
You can find the course materials and Video lectures at

This is basic mandatory first course of the undergraduate pgm from MIT.LISP
dialect used is SCHEME.I believe SCHEME is currently only used as a education
tool.
If your aim is just to open you mind to new ways of implementation,I believe
SCHEME is enough. But if you planning for real world development in LISP ,better
try out COMMON LISP.

Hello Bhardwaj,
Thanks for the tip; I am downloading LispWorks on my mac as we speak.
Will give the eclipse plugin a try as well.
Learning a language like Lisp requires two things
- A change of mindset while programming ( I come from the Java/Ruby/C++ world )
- Learning the language syntax itself ( the easy part )
I'm more concerned with #1 at the moment; Lisp is something I've been wanting to
pickup since a long long time.

Hi Vijay,
I attended one, a few months back. It was on hiring and was excellent.
70% of the audience had specific questions (very high focus and
participation) which were answered very well by the panelists.
Cheers,

Sorry Folks!

*Venue:** CiSTUP, IISc Bangalore*
*Date: **27 November 2009
*
*Tea: **5:15pm*
*Starting Time:** 5:30pm*
*Speaker:** Dr Edvard Jobson, Environment Director, Volvo*
*Topic:** Latest Hybrid technology for buses.*
*Description*
The new hybrid buses features:
1.
Fully electric, take-off from bus stops
2.
More than 30% lower fuel consumption
3.
50% less emissions of NOx and particulates
4.
3dB less noise
The progress has been achieved by the development of a new HD parallel
hybrid technology. An electric machine with more than 90% efficiency is used
to recuperate the brake energy. Auxiliaries such as the AC, air compressor
and steering servo have been electrified. The engine is developed with a
stop and go function that turns of the engine at traffic lights and bus
stops. The new compact D5 diesel engine brings further efficiency gain and
the I-shift automatic manual transmission secures improved efficiency also
in commuter traffic. The first fleets have now been in service for 6 months.
The fuel consumption is confirmed to be 30% lower than a new standard diesel
bus with latest technology. Two demo buses have been circulating by bus
operators in Europe and results from a variety of conditions confirms the
robustness of the new technology.
The environmental impact is superior to all known alternatives for public
transports as confirmed by the new European rules for green public
procurement of road transports.
*Profile of the Speaker*
The speaker, *Edward Jobson,* has a Phd in catalytic processes from Zurich,
is a professor at Chalmers Institute of Technology, board member of Swedish
catalysis society, and environmental director at Volvo Bus Corporation. He
currently manages research activities in the areas of emission control,
energy efficiency, hybrids, fuel cells and sustainable fuels.
He has been coordinator and president of large cooperation projects on
emissions and fuel efficient engines, within the European Framework
programmes. The research assignments have led to several inventions out of
which 17 patents and patent applications have been registered. In 2001
control of the deterioration of catalysts led him to the “Henry Ford Award
for technical excellence”.

Hi
Few months back I shared the launch of the first career portal from our
start-up, Entrancecorner.com. That portal catered to engineering aspirants -
*engg.entrancecorner.com*. It has been a decent success story so far. Today
we launch the second career portal - *law.entrancecorner.com*. This portal
caters to aspirants seeking a career in Law. This portal has a very strong
inbuilt social networking platform. The entire features of the portal can be
best experienced after a registration. The portal also provides real time
information through its free mobile application.
Our start-up EntranceCorner strives to equip students with resources and
information which would help them make informed career decisions and realize
their dreams. We would love to hear feedback/suggestions in any form from
you. Please help us spreading word about this portal.
