RE: [barcampboston] Wiki

The only reason for suggesting such is wiki-spam: (massive thanks to Jeff for deleting so much of it)

Wouldn't any spam-prevention tool be just the same as asking folks to register/login?

I wasn't involved with the registration process ... obviously that's the most important thing and it should be super-easy.

Randomness:
* I think it might be easy to selectively lock/unlock individual pages.
* MW bulk deletes are a pain (which is silly).
* If you're going to a barcamp you already know how to register for a wiki.
* I'm behind a strict firewall for most of the day in terms of remote mysql / ssh.

Scott, do you not want non-verified wiki edits for any reasons other than spam?

During the unconference and the build-up to it, I have a pretty easy time moderating the wiki and deleting obvious spam content, which tends to reduce the amount posted in the first place. It's really just the other 330ish days of the year that moderating it is too much of a time-suck to do on a daily basis, causing the amount of spam posted to increase, necessitating wiki lockdown (or a better spam-killing solution. Where is Akismet for MediaWiki?).

I like the idea of using EventBrite. It would be a better solution for:
a) being able to create a list of attendee e-mail addresses, for reminder announcements,
b) automating creation of 3 "tags" for attendee badges,
c) keeping the list of registrants public (as opposed to using Google Docs), so people can see attendance building.

Are there other considerations we should look at?

I noticed that OpenGovHackDay used Eventbrite and that the user-editable registration profiles are available via RSS which I'm sure can be synched with MediaWiki ...
