i took the .rpm and converted to .deb:
sudo alien -k --scripts bemacs-7.3-152.i386.rpm
i then installed the .deb:
sudo dpkg -i bemacs_7.3-152_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 275987 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace bemacs 7.2-247 (using bemacs_7.3-152_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement bemacs ...
Setting up bemacs (7.3-152) ...
i ran bemacs and it opened up a window with one of my .ml files in it,
with the cursor somewhere in the middle of the file. there was no
error, at the top of the screen i had a 'stop' button that i've never
seen before, so i tried clicking it. nothing.
my mouse is not working. it's inserting octal codes into the text.
i deleted the buffer and reloaded. no file, otherwise the same. tried
again and had a different file loaded.
i installed the old version on top of the new. same problem. i
uninstalled bemacs and then installed. same problem.
i confess i didn't actually check that the old version was working
immediately before installing the new. it was working perfectly when i
last used it, which was at the weekend.
i'm stumped.
