The 3rd Annual Bay Area Regional Science Olympiad will be held on Saturday, April 5, 2008, in San Jose.  While that seems far away at the moment, it will be upon us quickly!  Over 200 high school students from across the Bay area are expected to participate.
  
 
  
We are in need of 50+ volunteers to make this tournament run smoothly.  I hope you will be able to volunteer for this worthwhile and exciting program.
  
 
  
The volunteer opportunities include:
  
 
  
- EVENT SUPERVISOR - This person will run one of the 23 different events during the tournament.  Depending on the event, this will involve writing & scoring a test, developing & grading a lab experiment, or judging a device contest.  Guidelines are provided for each event, and past tests may be available for use.  Events are held between 8:00 a.m.  and 2:00 p.m.  Time commitment varies depending on the time the event is scheduled and on the amount of preparation needed.
  
 
  
- EVENT ASSISTANT - This person will assist the event supervisor by helping to arrange the room, hand out materials, and grade/score the event.  Volunteers can sign up for 1 to 4 events that will be held between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on the day of the tournament.
  
 
  
- REGISTRATION ASSISTANT - Helps with coach and volunteer registration. Works at the registration table from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  May assist with lunch setup and other administrative tasks as well.
  
 
  
- SCORING ASSISTANT - Assists with overall scoring (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)
  
 
  
Training will be provided several weeks before the tournament.  Lunch will be provided for volunteers on the day of the tournament.
  
 
  
Attached is a volunteer form, a tentative schedule for the day, and a description of the various events.  Please fill out the volunter form and email it to me as soon as possible.  Also, please circulate the information to your colleagues and friends and encourage them to volunteer!  The tournament is completely run by volunteers, and we need lots of help!
