No, Claudia , it's not possible. What you can do is upload the Hot Pot
exercises to a Google doc --it can be done!-- and then put up the link
in the wiki ;-)
Good luck!

Dear Mary:
this isn't a stupid question. Many of us have felt like that ,once in our
lifetime...

Have you got any chance that your students type these words as homework?
If not...

Give the task by pairs. Four eyes see more than two, and you've got four
students working with the PCs.

The rest can do any other activity related to the same words. Use them in
statements.Match the words with their meaning or image, etc.

A hug

Hi Mary!
To the activities you have listed I would add others using the words
already in the word wall. For example:
- a guessing game: sts work in 2 groups. Taking turns, each group
chooses one of the words in the word wall and gives its definition, or
mimics it (depending on the level) for the other group to guess the
word (ummm, too messy?)
- building up sentences or writing a story including those words
- or better, leaving blanks in the sentences/stories for their
partners to complete with the target vocabulary.
Hope this helps,
Mary

Dear Alfia,

Aside from the review feature in Word, there are two other options you might
want to try. The simplest is to just use highlighting or a color code to
indicate the nature of errors, e.g., spelling mistakes in yellow highlight,
simple grammar errors in red font, etc. Pedagogically, this approach is best for
those aspects of the language that students are expected to already know (what
Pete Corder termed "mistakes"). It is much more effective for students to
"notice the gap" and make their own corrections than for the instructor to do it
for them. It is is also much less time consuming for the instructor.

For those aspects of the language where comments and correction are appropriate
("errors" in Corder's terms) I would recommend having a look at Markin, a
program especially designed for the annotation of compositions. It's most
salient feature is the ability it offers to automate the annotation process by
assigning standard comments to keyboard shortcuts, i.e., highlight a section of
text and insert a "Vocab" or "Tense" or "Agree" flag, etc. with the click of a
button. You can obtain a trial version of Markin from
http://www.cict.co.uk/software/markin/index.htm.
You may also want to consult the CALICO review of Markin at
https://www.calico.org/p-185-%20Markin32%20(51998).html

This should be easy, but I am stumped.

I only have a couple computers available but 7 students.

My students need to type up their new vocabulary to put on the word wall we
are building.

What can the remaining students do while a pair of students is typing and
needs my help?

I thought maybe the others could practice a dialog in pairs.

Or everyone could write a paragraph about their family or home or daily
routine (my students are high basic).

Does anyone have any ideas how I can manage the class so that the students
can take turns typing and also continue learning while I am busy helping
with the typing.

Hi
There is this software designed to mark students' work:
http://www.cict.co.uk/software/markin/index.htm

What Does Markin Do?

Markin is a Windows program which runs on the teacher's computer. It can
import a student's text for marking by pasting from the clipboard, or
directly from an RTF or text file.

Once the text has been imported, Markin provides all the tools a teacher
needs to mark and annotate the text.

When marking is complete, the teacher can export the marked text as an
RTF file for loading into a word-processor, or as a web page so that
students can view the marked text in a web browser.

It's not freeware, but you can try it with short texts for free.

Hello Alfia :)
Have you ever tried GoogleDocs?? It's a good tool( if you have a gmail
account) and it enables syncronous correction!! You could be online
with your student and correct his/her work. But of course "adding a
comment", like Teresa suggested is much easier and faster :)

Good work

Hi Alfia,
This is what I do:
- copy and paste the mail onto a Word doc. (I believe my version is
older than Teresa's)
- select the word/words that need improving
- in the toolbar, go to "insert"
- scroll it down, click on "comment"
- you'll see a bubble in which you can write your comment.
- email the revised version as an attachment

Another alternative that I think can be really useful is getting your
students to use Google docs.

Hope it works for you.

Hi, Alfia!

I believe that you need to go to the Review menu (Office 2007 is the version
I have) and activate "Track Changes". Under "Change Tracking Options" you
can see what is available. You can also insert comments with the "New
Comment" submenu. This is what's used used in revisions of papers, for
example.

Another alternative is for you to create a code that you give your students
in advance and introduce the changes in the document in parentheses,
starting with the code and then the correction. [Exemple (sp: Example)]. sp
= spelling

In any of these options, I would always "Save" the original doc with a
slightly different name.

Hope this helps.

Hugs, Teresa

Hi Jaya!
Sorry for my belated response. I haven't visited this group for quite
a while, which is so ungrateful of me since it is here that my
experience as a webhead started.
Anyway, here is the link to a pronunciation site that I like very
much. There are short videos on each individual sound. Just click on
the sound and there it is.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/grammar/pron/sounds/
Hope it helps.
Mary

Dear Webheads:

I am really proud of being a member of this group because all the people who
multitask, help, teach, share knowledge and feelings here are really great. You
are in my heart everyday.

I will never forget you save my carrer when I felt my hearing problem was the
end of my professional life. But I found comfort, understanding and friendship
in this group.

I would like to say thank you to Dafne who introduced me to the group in 2001
and Vance who created the "creature" and let it grow :-)

Happy anniversary, Webheads!!!
All my love from Argentina.
Nelba

Congratulations to all of you!

I haven't been able to join in the previewed activities but I couldn't
let the day go by, without writting a few words!

One year ago, I used Internet for some google research, images and mail.

In January, more by accident than by knowledge, I found you all! A new
world through webtools was about to be discovered! When I joined in, I
didn't know exactly what to expect... but I wasn't certainly expecting
what I found!

One year later, I know so much more ( and yet I have so much more to
discover, I am still a little more than a beginner!)and that's all
thanks to you, guys...

I met wonderful people, made some virtual friends, found companionship
and willingness to help others as I hadn't met in years here in
Portugal...

I am not going to thank anyone in particular as I am afraid to forget
someone...

Thank you for changing my professional life, for opening to me so many
doors in webtools, as my first class experiences with the web came
after your webheads in action 08...

I'll be around

Carlos F

After all these years of multitasking I think my mind is slipping....But,
the domain name of Google.com was registered on September 15, 1997, which
means it was one year old with BAW started. (Actually, the Google timeline
is much more confusing: http://searchengineland.com/070914-104722.php ). In
a somewhat similar vein, I posted to the
http://voicethread.com/share/187383/ Webhead 10 Year anniversary voice
thread, a link instead of a voice (it was dark and I couldn't find my
microphone at the time). The link is to a TED talk by Kevin Kelly on the
what has happened on the web in the last 5,000 days and what might happen in
the next 5,000 days (which is equal to about 13 and a half years - a little
longer than Webheads life experience).

The point that I am trying to make is that Webheads qualify as a integral
part of the internet. Select little community though it is, it has cut it's
teeth on this technology and continues to lead the way in some of the most
revolutionary educational ideas around. Proof of the intellectual level of
Webheads can be found in this photo: http://tiny.pl/8176.

I have loved every minute of it. Thanks to you all.
