Research Assistant Needed for SFDPH's Healthy Development Measuremen   Message List
Reply Message #527 of 529 |
The San Francisco Department of Public Health, Environmental Health
Section?s Program on Health Equity and Sustainability is currently
accepting applications for a Research Assistant to support the updating of
the Healthy Development Measurement Tool (HDMT).

The HDMT is a comprehensive evaluation metric used to support health
consideration in urban land use policy and planning. In San Francisco,
the HDMT has been used to assess the health impacts of land use
development plans in seven neighborhoods experiencing significant health
inequities and resulted in changes to the area plans and planning
processes to address health concerns. HDMT data, development targets and
policy/design strategies have also been used by a number of other agencies
and organizations in San Francisco to inform the development of
sustainability and regional equity indicators, grant-related
decision-making, neighborhood needs assessments, evaluation of public
housing redevelopment, and much more.

The community-developed framework for the San Francisco HDMT has been
adapted for other projects, cities, and regions in Oakland, Humboldt
County, Berkeley, Denver, Galveston, Geneva, South Korea, and the Balearic
Islands (Spain). The HDMT has been recognized as a Model Practice by
National Association of City and County Health Officers (NACCHO) and has
been profiled in a number of places including the American Planning
Association?s Planner magazine, a report by PolicyLink, and the Unnatural
Causes' national action toolkit. For more information about the HDMT,
please visit: www.TheHDMT.org

The Research Assistant will be responsible for accessing, analyzing, and
synthesizing data to revise HDMT community health indicators and
development targets. The individual will work as a part of an agency team
in collaboration with other city agencies and may support team training
and evaluation efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual
interested in learning how a local health department can help advance
consideration of health and the social determinants of health in all
policies.

This is a temporary position, with an anticipated length of 12 weeks. The
pay is $15.30/hour.

experience in public health, community planning and assessment, land use
and urban planning, or other related area OR will be enrolled in or will
have completed a graduate degree such as MPH, MPP, MCP from an accredited
college or university. For more specific information on the
responsibilities and qualifications associated with this position, please
