Pure BEAM and one of the simplest 555 circuits that does something useful!
Sub a 2N2222 for higher current. Attached is an even simpler phototropic
version configured as a two motor photopopper. Is a CMOS 5556 available?

i think that i am one of the "old timers" and i love this 555 timer,
too.
i made a simple solar engine with the cmos version. the trigger voltage
is
about 2.6 V.
the current during loading is about 60渙 or less.
