Description

The surgeon general report on mental health lists behavior analysis/modification as a well established treatment intervention for children with ADHD in the classroom. In addition, behavioral parent training is a well established treatment for oppositional defiant disorder and conduct disorder. Finally, behaviorally oriented residentals such as teaching family homes are listed by the surgeon general as promising for children and adolescents with conduct disorders. This list is sponsored by the Behavior Analyst Online organization www.behavior-analyst-online.org a special interest group of the Internation Association for Behavior Analysis in preparation for the newly developing Association for Behavior Analysis's (http://www.abainternational.org/) Special Interest group on Behavior Analysis and Disruptive Disorders. This list is for parents and professionals interested in behavior analytic assessments such as functional behavioral assessment and curriculum based measurement as well as behaviorally based interventions. It is hope that this list will serve as an active point of discussion between parents, teachers, and researchers on the current availability of behavioral technology for treatment of disruptive disorders and the direction that this research needs to go. Recent meta analysis of behavioral intereventions for ADHD obtained an average effect sizes for parent training have been estimated to be 0.87 and 1.44 for behavioral school-based interventions (Chronis et al., 2006).
