2008 Opening Day!
Belmont Farmers' Market Weekly Message – June 12th, 2008
There's a celebratory opening day recipe at the end of this message!
Weather: The report is for near perfect opening day conditions. Sunny
skies and cooler than our early week heat wave. High of 79 in the late
afternoon. Please remember to bring water for yourself and your children.
Join us as we open our third season this Thursday June 12th! New
vendors and old favorites with fresh produce, garden plants, meat,
pies, cheese, eggs, cereals, sauces, and more. Belmont Board of
Selectmen Representative Paul Solomon will officially open the market by cutting
our tomato line ribbon. We'll have a brass fanfare performed by Benjamin and
Nathaniel Meyer, perennial favorite performers at our market.
Keep your eyes out for our tomato mascot wandering the grounds. Be
sure to visit our information booth as well to learn about future
events at the Farmers' Market and around town.
Strawberries
Later this week, consider supporting Massachusetts Farmers' Market by
participating in a Strawberry Festival
This June, over 15 beloved local restaurants will partner with Mass
Farmers Markets to celebrate local strawberry season and raise needed
funds to support markets state-wide. From June 14 -- 29th,
participating restaurants will donate part of the proceeds from your
order of a strawberry dessert to our organization. For more
information see massfarmersmarkets.org/t-events.aspx
Participating restaurants signed up so far include: 51 Lincoln (Newton
Highlands), Avila (Boston), Beacon Hill Bistro (Boston), Bella Luna
(Jamaica Plain), Bistro 5 (Medford), Chez Henri (Cambridge), Davio's
Steakhouse (Boston), The Fireplace (Brookline), flora (Arlington),
Highland Kitchen (Somerville), Lineage (Brookline), Lumiere (Newton),
Persephone (Boston), Prose (Arlington), Tomasso Trattoria
(Southborough), and Upstairs on the Square (Cambridge). In addition,
Garden at the Cellar (Cambridge) will donate proceeds from a savory
strawberry dish, and Whole Foods Market will donate 10% of the
