realterm can be a little tricky to make work, plus I think the training material leaves out that you have clear both DTR and RTS. There is a terminal option

Here is how I do this. In the IAR workbench under "Tools" select "Boot Load USB with Terminal". This will launch a DOS prompt and will download your program.
