True, the man was funny but the point he was trying to make wasn't clear
to me. I acually had a hard time following the so-called traditional
method he used first- I remember using the word
borrowing for subtraction when I learned about subtraction-he used
the word carrying. To me carrying implies addition.
Somehow the number 173 got changed to 176 on the screen midway
through the clip, too, and I had no idea if this was intentional or not.
The "new math" he poked fun of was actually closer to the way I was taught.
I was able to follow that part well. However, most reform programs I'm
aware of don't quite present it the way he did.
