New to the group and while my 10" dob would hardly qualify as big, I regularly
attend new moon weekends in Chiefland, FL where there are very dark skies and
lots of big dob's that are generally available to all who want to enjoy the
view. John Novak has two observatories that include a 24" RC, 32" Newtonian, and
36" Dobsonian -- all custom built by him. In addition to that there are usually
30-50 astronomers on the field each new moon weekend to observe and share. The
big Fall Star Party is developing into a tremendous event with several hundred
observers on the 20+ acre site. Mark November 9-15, 2009 on your calendar and
go to fallstarparty.com to find out more about Chiefland and the Fall Star
Party.
