Hi.
I was reading a treatise on Charcoal making with sugarcane bagasse.
It reported a REALLY high percentage of ash, and the negative effects
of the ash boosting the pH of the soil.
That got me wondering. I'd noticed that the TLUD I'm using makes
nearly NO ash at all.
The only time it did make ash, I hadn't capped the reactor tightly AND
forgot to cap the secondary air input. I came back 12 hours later
expecting to find cool biochar and found instead two cups of warm ash.
So I was wondering how much ash the other methods of making biochar
produce, given a standard of pine scraps as fuel.
Anyone want to comment?
