My own experience of being an only child was such that I found it to be ideal.
That is to say as a kid in the streets of London during the war one had so many
friends that one could hardly cope with them all. But, when one felt like being
alone one could stay at home in utter peace and quiet and simply get on with
what interested you with no hassle or interruptions. So, to me, at the time, and
maybe still now, it seemed to be the best of both worlds. Perhaps if one had
been spoiled then maybe not, but where I came from kids were not spoiled nor had
the opportunity to be so.
However, I have five kids and would not have fancied having one on their own.
Odd is it not. We seem to be a bunch of paradoxes ;- )
Dick.
