Erik Mansager and Jane Pfefferle have written a glowing review of
"Educating Children for Cooperation & Contribution: Volume II,"
highlighting the valuable insights, techniques, and graphics for
guiding children toward more positive choices. The review may be
found at http://home.att.net/~Adlerian/ecc-v2-review.htm.
Although an abundance of Adlerian child guidance materials have helped
educators, therapists, and parents, many still hunger for greater depth, and
more creative, effective ways to guide children toward cooperation and
contribution
"Educating Children for Cooperation & Contribution, Volume II," available at
http://home.att.net/~Adlerian/ecc-v2.htm, contains an abundance of practical and
inspirational Adlerian child guidance resources. In "The Work of an Adlerian
Psychologist in the Schools," Anthony Bruck, who studied with Alfred Adler,
explains the value of written essays, class discussions about behavioral
problems, and individual interviews with students. Many illustrations
demonstrate the art of questioning children Socratically, leading them gradually
to useful insight. In "Enlightening Children," Bruck shows us how to use a
simple strategy of clarifying attitudinal and behavioral choices, using graphic
clarifiers. His "Ten Commandments of Creative Education," are designed to
encourage positive attitudes toward the self, others, difficulties, and the
other sex.
Also included in this volume are three articles by Alfred Adler that emphasize
the central importance of preparing children with the right attitude toward
difficulties, and an article by Theodore Grubbe providing a host of practical
suggestions for helping children adjust to the school environment. A set of
condensed charts summarize the impact of various teaching styles on students, as
well as strategies for dealing with their mistaken goals. Finally, a summary of
Adlerian child guidance principles for teachers offers a clear focus on the most
effective educational-psychological approach for eliciting cooperation in the
classroom.
Teachers, parents, and therapists will discover a treasure of creative, child
guidance strategies that bring Adler's unique, original legacy to life. Order
your copy of "Educating Children for Cooperation & Contribution, Volume II" now,
at http://home.att.net/~Adlerian/ecc-v2.htm.
"Educating Children for Cooperation & Contribution," Volume II,
contains exceptional, new child guidance resources for educators,
therapists, and parents: "The Work of an Adlerian Psychologist in the
Schools," Enlightening Children," and "Influencing the Child," by
Anthony Bruck. Bruck, who was trained by Alfred Adler, embodied
several central qualities of his mentor: warmth, gentleness, and
creativity. His work with children was reminiscent of Adler's
remarkable ability to make immediate contact and win a child with
respect, simple insight, and infectious optimism. Like a kindly uncle,
he guided children Socratically to make their own conclusions about
new ways to cross the bridge from misbehavior to cooperation.
Volume II also contains three articles by Alfred Adler: "Training for
Courage," "Children's Life Tests," and "The Lazy Child;" and "The
Challenge of Kindergarten," by Theodore Grubbe.

value, application, and limits of birth order theory, including the
contributions of Alfred Adler, Frank Sulloway, Judith Harris, Margarite
Goertzel, Hugh Missildine, and Thomas Verney.
Hi, I'm doing the following survey study for one of my psychology
courses. I still am in great need of participants. If you have 10
spare minutes, could you please read the information below and
complete the survey for me?
The Effect of Birth Order on Personality and Interpersonal Relationships
Welcome to "The Effect of Birth Order on Personality and Interpersonal
Relationships," a web-based experiment that examines how one's birth
order affects one's personality. Before taking part in this study,
please read the consent form below and only continue if you understand
the statements and freely consent to participate in the study.
Consent Form
This study involves a web-based experiment designed to understand the
effect of birth order on one's personality and interpersonal
relationship style. No deception is involved, and the study involves
no more than minimal risk to participants (i.e., the level of risk
encountered in daily life). In this study you will complete a
questionnaire concerning the strategies you use for studying for an
exam in a science course. There are 25 questions, and we estimate it
will take about fifteen to twenty minutes to complete. Some
demographic information is collected as well. You are free to not
answer any question, to stop participating at any time without
penalty, and to not have this survey be part of the data set. All
questionnaires are anonymous, and the forms will be kept confidential
by the researcher.
All responses are treated as confidential, and in no case will
responses from individual participants be identified. Rather, all data
will be pooled and published in aggregate form only. We have no way of
knowing who replied with what answers, so please answer as truthfully
as possible. Participants should be aware, however, that the
experiment is not being run from a "secure" https server of the kind
typically used to handle credit card transactions, so there is a small
possibility that responses could be viewed by unauthorized third
parties (e.g., computer hackers).
Many individuals find participation in this study enjoyable, and no
adverse reactions have been reported thus far. Participation is
voluntary, refusal to take part in the study involves no penalty or
loss of benefits to which participants are otherwise entitled, and
participants may withdraw from the study at any time without penalty
or loss of benefits to which they are otherwise entitled.
If participants have further questions about this study or their
rights, or if they wish to lodge a complaint or concern, they may
contact the principal investigator, at psychexperimentor@...

My own experience of being an only child was such that I found it to be ideal.
That is to say as a kid in the streets of London during the war one had so many
friends that one could hardly cope with them all. But, when one felt like being
alone one could stay at home in utter peace and quiet and simply get on with
what interested you with no hassle or interruptions. So, to me, at the time, and
maybe still now, it seemed to be the best of both worlds. Perhaps if one had
been spoiled then maybe not, but where I came from kids were not spoiled nor had
the opportunity to be so.
However, I have five kids and would not have fancied having one on their own.
Odd is it not. We seem to be a bunch of paradoxes ;- )
Dick.

Hi there,
I am SAM, an Iraqi refugee living in Lebanon at the moment; I have spent the
last 10 years of my life as a refugee registered with the UNHCR in Beirut. The
last 4 years, I have spent as an activist for peace and human rights (especially
refugees and asylum seekers) on the Internet; I'm also books author and ebooks
publisher. I have launched many campaigns to improve our situation as refugees
in Lebanon and hopefully bring more understanding to our problems worldwide. I
helped make many changes and improvements at the UNHCR office in Beirut; I used
the Internet as the field for my activities (you can read more about that in my
free ebook 'MY CAMPAIGNS'). All my ebooks are free and could be download from my
sites.
This is my newest campaign, it's about the illegal and humiliating actions of
the UNHCR, who using photos of refugees as banners and human-buttons to collect
money. This is an abuse of the dignity and humanity of the refugees and must
stop immediately and a clear public apology present by The United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees. My friends, I am talking about the pictures you can

campaign is to support and improve the UNHCR http://www.unhcr.ch especially
after the last scandals in the UN and UNHCR, just for example:
The refugees allege that UNHCR staff is selling most of the food items they are
supposed to be supplied.
"They aren't supplying sufficient food to us because they sell most of the food
items," they allege: http://allafrica.com/stories/200503140214.html

internalid=AOT_t_07-02-2006_the_new_science. Sadly, Adler's
contribution to birth order is not mentioned, nor are the other
potential influences on personality formation given any weight. The
writer falls into the seductive trap of "one cause," simplistic
thinking. A few years ago, Judith Harris claimed that children's
friends were the primary influence on personlaity formation.
Check "The Style of Life Tree" at
http://go.ourworld.nu/hstein/tree.htm for a Classical Adlerian
perspective.
I took the survey and am a fourth child ISFJ. What I haven't seen
discussed in personality formation is the effect of adult behavior on
children from adults other than parents and older siblings. I remember
vividly arriving for the first day of school each year having been
assigned a teacher who had taught my siblings. I never knew if the
teacher would compare me to the black sheep behavior of my oldest
brother or the straight-A behavior of my oldest sister, but I knew
that I would always be prejudged.
Yes, it's a thankless job, but somebody has to do it! In my 47 years,
I have found birth order to be a better predictor of behavior than
almost any other single factor except possibly education level. I
must admit to overweening pride at my birth-order status, in spite of
all its dysfunctions. Melinda

Hi everyone. My name is Kim. I'm a 22 y/o only child. I've noticed
some discussion of MBTI types. My type is ISTJ (although I also have
a lot of ESTJ characteristics as well). I'm also a 1w2 on the
enneagram. I'm a psychology major (I must have a little "F" in me
somewhere), and personality typing (MBTI, birth order, etc.)is
proably about my biggest interest area. Oh, and to those of you who
are looking for books on birth order theory, I'm currently in the
middle of "The New Birth Order Book" by Dr. Kevin Leman.
Kim
I was the 4th of 6 kids in the family. Mom wanted a girl so bad that
she kept trying yo have one. She is 8 years younger than me. My
oldest brother is 6 years older.
I seemed to always take the blame for the older brothers mistakes as
they were always telling our parents I did it whatever it was. The
boys in the house seemed to live away from the parents while the girl
lived in the same house. That is they seemed to rent places with a
seperate house for us guys. I hated this but put up with it. I was
also the look out guy watching for parents or others wqhile my
brothers were up to no good. I moved away from home several times
while growing up to other relatives homes. My little brother died in
a house fire that I don't think my parents ever got over. Both my
parents were dead by the time I turned 26.
Dad told me once that he wasn't any of us kids real dad, but I know
at least one of them were. My real father died before I knew he was
my dad.
My dad who raised me was very protective of us all. He taught me
many things.
Life was hard a lot of times with 2 alcoholic parents and lots of
fightening and arguing.
My brothers have done some very bad stuff when we were young and I
found out about it recently. I was on lookout for them while it was
going on. I feel I should have done something about it but was
scared by the threats they made to me. I don't think my life would
have been any different if I was born first or last. I'm just glad to
be me and not one of the others who may have to live with what they
have done.
I'm a first-born and have taken Myers Briggs (4) four times as an
adult. I have always tested 50/50 ENTJ and ENFJ.
