Hello,
I am working to port one of my Windows and DOS games over to Linux.
However, this game was not written in HLA (like my other project, HLA
Adventure). The game itself was written in BASIC, and is compatible
with all versions of QBasic, QuickBASIC, PowerBASIC, Blassic, UBasic,
Basic-A and GW-Basic.
The source code is included along with the download, which can be
downloaded from the interactive fiction archive below:
http://mirror.ifarchive.org/if-archive/games/pc/wftrans.zip
Westfront PC is a text adventure in the style of Zork, Collasal
Caves, and the original Adventure. If you have played text adventures
before then you should feel right at home.
The point of Westfront PC is to complete various tasks (called
'Quests') in order to win the game. They are posted on a bulletin
board in the village guild. To read the quests, type 'read board'
while in the guild room.
Some of these quests can be completed ahead of schedule, depending on
where you are in the game. It is better, however, to complete them
one by one.
Windows 3.11 or above, and/or MS-DOS 5.0
For Linux users, DOSEMU or Wine and kernel 2.0 or above.
The source code for version 7.95 (the proposed cross-platform
version) is QBasic and PowerBASIC compatible. Version 7.95 is a
slightly smaller version of my original Windows version of "Westfront
PC: The Trials of Guilder" (version 19.65), which can be found here:

Westfront PC has currently been successfully ported to the following
computer platforms:
Windows 95/98/NT/Me/2000/XP
MS-DOS 5.0 or above
Linux (via DOSEMU or Wine)
Commodore 64
Commodore 128
Commodore Plus/4
Commodore Vic-20
I have hopes of porting Westfront PC over to the following computing
platforms in the near future:
Amiga
Apple II
Atari 400/800
Acorn
Amstrad CPC 464
DEC Rainbow
IBM PC/PCjr
Macintosh
Palm IIIc (or equivalents)
Sinclair ZX-81
Tandy CoCo 2/3
TI 99/4A
Bally Astrocade
Tomy Tutor
This is not an exhaustive list of game porting hopefuls. That list
can be found below:
http://www.geocities.com/dunric/wftrans.html
I am currently focusing on the Linux port of the game, however.
Is a port of Westfront PC to Blassic possible? Would anyone like to
help me with this project?
The game was released into the Public Domain on August 3, 2000.
Sincerely,
Paul Allen Panks
