In your last article "HTML Introduction" you have copied into it some
HTML tags.
Those tags actually function as HTML when seen by the browser and will
therefore behave like them (effecting everything after them)

You need to encode the HTML to stop it behaving like HTML

   &lt;strikeout&gt;

Use the following
& -ampersand
lt - less than (code for "less than")
; - delimiter (tells the browser that it is the end of the code)

& -ampersand
gt - less than (code for "greater than" symbol)
; - delimiter (tells the browser that it is the end of the code)

Make sure you put them on the same line  &lt;html_keyword&gt;

You will need to do that for each HTML 'keyword' in that article (center
/ c / strikeout / s / font / basefont / u )

Chris

Just to follow up with the answer to this problem:

The problem was the CNAME record entry had been set to an IP address and not
ghs.google.com.

Google had changed the IP address of the server so that traffic was not being
redirected to the right place.

This is a prime example of why we use domain names and not IP addresses (other
than the fact that IP addresses are a pain to remember compared to 'names'

The OP has a problem with his domain registrar which prevented him from setting
up the correct CNAME entry so he had no choice of using an IP address. In this
instance, he has had to put in the new IP address and will have to do this once
again when or if Google change the IP address again.

If you have a domain registrar that doesn't give you full access to your 'Zone
File', then it probably means it is time to find a new Domain Registrar.

So to sum up, make sure you use the correct CNAME entry and not an IP address or
it may come back to haunt you at some random point in the future...

Chris

The problem is that your CNAME entry has been deleted somewhere.

When you sign up for a custom domain, you need to add a CNAME record at your
Domain Registrar.
You should have added something like cname = ghs1.google.com. (Note the .
(period) at the end).
I would also verify with the settings at Blogger if it is ghs1 or just ghs

At the moment, when I do a query for your domain, it is trying to point me to IP
address: 209.85.171.121

What should happen is that your DNS provider forwards all requests for
OnlyAtIA.com to Google's name server ghs1.google.com which then loads up your
blog.
(This assumes that you didn't purchase your domain direct via Google).

But, that is if you are only using the custom domain option and NOT your own
custom domain on your own web server (and publishing via FTP). Since you didn't
mention FTP, I'm assuming you are doing a straight forward "Custom Domain"

You appear to be with Rapidsite, but to edit the CNAME records, you must login
to the control panel that manages your Domain Name (records).

How do I use a custom domain name on my blog?

Hey Chris, see you're still the resident expert! You might or might not remember
me as Colette. Anyway, good to see that some things don't change!

I'm back in the game but feel like I'm starting all over...I can't find my
notes! If I could figure out just one basic trick, I'd be on my way. Every time
I copy and paste code into the template there are errors, usually saying the
code is broken. This happens whether I add a gadget or insert into html. That's
my main problem.

Secondly, the text on my sidebar is so tiny, it's illegible. I looked through
the sidebar code and changed various font sizes, but nothing changed.

Finally, in the about me, or is it about the author, at the top of the side bar
has text with a link embedded. It was working fine for a couple of weeks, but
now only the link remains, even though the text is still in the template. I
tried changing colors, but it just doesn' show up!

Thanks for anything you can tell me!

www.theotherbed.com
Okay, one more thing--nothing sticks in my far right sidebar. Go figure.

What's the URL to your blog ?
Is it http://www.finkerdoodles.blogspot.com/ by any chance?
And is it working now (judging from the comment you made on your blog).

Links: I don't like what the default link is (light blue and underlined) so is
there a way to make my link code the default and not theirs?

Crossing out words: it turns my text from black to gray and the cross out line
is gray as well. Is there a way to keep them both black?

Thanks.

which links to here:

which currently does not exist!

My questions:

* Why is that backlinks article gone? E.g. do the old instructions no longer
work?

* Anyone have any suggestions for why backlinks are no longer
working on my remote ftp-hosted Blogger blog?

Thank you,

Jay,

Right now the MP3 isn't hosted anywhere online -- it's on my

That's the part where Sigrid is stuck at the moment.
She was trying to use the video upload feature on Bloggers GUI to
cheat and upload an MP3.

Sigrid is after a location where she can host the MP3 for free, or a
podcasting service that gives her a snippet of code to use on her
blogspot hosted blog...
You can't use some of the free file hosts because they don't allow
direct linking as such... (There are some, but there are file size and
bandwidth limits to consider)

Sigrid:

did you get it to work?

we post mp3s to our blog all the time. It is the home of our podcast;
www.mediastoogespro.com.

all you need to do is:
1 type the text that you want to be the link to the mp3: the filename
or whatever. This is in the main text (post) window.

2 highlight that text.

3 click the link icon.

4 enter the EXACT url where the mp3 is hosted.

5 send the post...

that's it.

You do have quite a few options with free file hosting (with some
limits on file size, some bandwidth restrictions).
Also, you might not be able use them as 'direct' links on your blog...

I wonder why Google allow you to upload video (YouTube ??), but not
Audio (since Podcasting has been around a lot longer than videos ??)

You could try searching on Google for "Free Podcast Hosting" and have

You just knew it would be me to reply didn't ya ;)

Yes it "should" be possible to post MP3's on your blog.
In theory, an MP3 is 'just a file', so just like a video, just like an
image.
The only difference being the application that opens it on yours or the
users PC.

One possible problem could be using the Upload Video Tool (I'm just
uploading a test 9meg MP3 file now and it appears to be stalled during the
video processing part).

I can't remember if you still post on Bloggers servers or if you use your
own web server but in theory, it should be as simple as uploading (via FTP
???) any old MP3 file to your web server (or if using blogger to any web
server you can access).
Then just include a standard link to it.
<a href="http://www.example.com/mp3/a_song.mp3">My MP3</a>

I suspect your problem is in using the video upload tool on Blogger....
(The google tool didn't like the MP3 I uploaded and I know it was a valid
MP3 file)

Any Ideas? Thanks! Sigrid

Not all Page Elements can be transferred, eg, Archives, but
HTML/Javascript are easily transferred but not automatic - manual.
See
http://dummies-guide-to-google-blogger.blogspot.com/2007/02/backing-
up-and-changing-new-blogger.html
or
http://dummies-guide-to-google-blogger.blogspot.com/2007/03/how-to-
backup-your-new-blogger-template.html

Note, don't know if after posting the long URL gets word wrapped and
ends up in more than one line. If so, it become unclickable or you
get 404 (Page not found). You may have to copy-paste into Notepad,
make (delete) them into a single line, copy-paste into address bar
of browser.

Hi,

I need to almost replicate my blog, so I was wondering is there is
anyway to copy-paste the page elements between blogs? I want to move
many links to my new blog without typing everything all over again. Do
you know any trick to do this?

Thanks

I think its because the preview does something wacky with either by showing
the new page inside an iframe, or because it uses a different CSS file (or
breaks the link to the CSS) file with the definition for the "Space-for-IE"
declaration).

Glad you are sorted

Chris

Okay I see what the problem was. I added something on the template last
night. When I hit the preview button, that's how it was. It showed
spacing problems, but if you go directly to the web address it's not
like that. I get it now.

I don't know why it's like that, but oh well. Thanks anyways, Chris!

Your blogs looked fine in Firefox and IE (IE 7)

Which browser you having problems with.

I do have one blog that I cannot for the life of me sort out the
spacing on that Navbar.

I did notice that your template uses a different method of positioning
the main body, but then I don't see any spacing problems at this end.

I'm guessing they made changes to it or whatever, but now the Navbar has
become a little problem that I don't know how to fix. It's a problem for
both of my blogs but more so for one. It covers up half of the title and
top of sidebar on my Southern Expressions
<http://southern21.blogspot.com/> blog and I don't know how to lower
it. I tried playing with the template a bit to move it all down, but
nothing seems to be working.

Any advice, please?

Chris:

I did do a Google search with words I knew were in the emails stolen and
the content DID come up in the Google search. So the content IS being
circulated in the Google Search Engines as well as God knows where else.

Well I wrote him at what I believe is another email address he was signed
up with on my group. We will see if he responds.

The timing is not good for me and IF he takes the content off the site I
would be willing to turn my back on it. IF he does not then I will contact
Blogger, Google, Adsense, etc. etc. They don't make it easy and it will
take me some time as I have to take care of my immediate situation with my
card site's grand re-opening. It is timed with the upcoming Jewish New
Year and that won't wait for me.

Thanks for the addresses of who to write and how and for explaining the
terms I had not been familiar with until now.

Thanks Vincent.

I sent a note to the person who took the content. It seems he was
subscribed under a separate email address (had to be him) from 2005. I
sent a note and asked him to remove the content. I said if he did I would
consider it a misjudgment on his part and leave it at that.

I went on to say that if the content was not removed I would contact
blogger, google, etc. etc. I said my ultimate goal would be to have his
site closed down that what he did was copyright infringement.

I think I was totally reasonable and just pointed out the facts. I went on
to say the group's archives and messages are closed to the general public
and search engines and have always been.

We'll see if I hear back.

I will see by Monday.

I am in the middle of getting ready for my card site's grand re-opening and
I have already lost 1 1/4 days already on this. My production time was nil
today and considering the grand re-opening is in a few days that is not a
good thing.

I would be willing to turn my back on it IF he removed the content because
of the above.

He destroyed in a few days the privacy and trust it took me to build in the
last nine years.

My blog is at http://pastexpiry.blogspot.com/

Problem is that the last 3 or 4 posts I have sent in blogger will show
up in feedburner only as a partial post (just the title and a few
words). My blogger settings are set to FULL FEED. I have looked for
the republish button, but apparently I am in the new blogger (beta?).
I have search the help groups for HOURS and cannot find anything
related to this other than going into my blogger settings and trying
"FULL FEED" which I have done several times. My content is mostly
images, so I will lose subscribers if I just send them these partial
posts with no images (just links). The problem started after the
August 12th post.

It seems as if Chris has done the job of pointing you in the right direction
