Tab-delimited is a pretty free form export format. I've done my best
to make it useful and understandable to other apps, but there may not
be a complete meeting of the (virtual) minds. Can you describe for me
a bit more about what shelfari does and whether it has a tab-
delimited export itself. Are you getting any particular error messages?

In the book information window, you can drag an image into the cover
image well and Books will save that. I do it all the time.
