There is a book called "Complete PCB Design Using OrCad Capture and Layout" by Kraig Mitzner. I have never read it so cant say how good it is but it sounds like just the book you might want to check out.

$90-100. Newark, Digikey, Jameko, Moser has it. Free programing tools
- WinAVR  and AVR Studio from Atmel. Same fun you can have, buying
Atmega8 card for satellite receivers...

I have found that the NEX robotics is overcharging for their boards. I have been using a development using ATMEGA16 but can even work for MEGA32. It provides much more support than the NEX robotics. Works well for me.

Download ICCAVR's any version. Newest is 7 as I think. It's easy to
work in C with AVR using ICCAVR. If you need any material related to
that I'll give.
