Look at load cells and strain guages. These devices can measure
weight.Look at this site.

Obviously they exist, otherwise Digital Weight Scales would never have been possible.

Load Cell is the most common weight sensor available in market & is extensively used in these weight scales. Find out one that matches your range.

As far as i have searched, you cant make of your own.

Generally, load cells have 5 pins:Vcc,GND,NC and 2 for outputs. They gives output as variable viltage or resistance according to weight applied.

For more info. on weight sensors, there are few links you can try

http://www.freepatentsonline.com/4624331.html

Do google for costs of load cells

Hi Deepak Kumar,

load cell cannot be made easily at home.
and load cell is a simple combinations of four stain gauges connected as a bridge. and glued on a metallic bar.
we can make the load cell by purchasing strain gauges......but we have to comprimise on its accuracy and reliability...because the comercially available load cell has temperature and age related compensation, which is built in....where we fails often..

and making a load cell will become a good project for you.....so please buy the comercially available load cell as per your requirement and do use in your project.

and for any further information please mail me immediately.

While I don't know the weight range you want.. I think every digital bathroom scales has strain gages and/or load scale. A different range would be a digital baby scales. Then there is digital kitchen scales that weigh in grams.

Salvaging the strain gage/load scale from a digital kitchen scales you could us it in a project, along with a micro controller and supporting parts, to count things like nut, bolts or medication tablets.

What weight range are you looking for?

Mike

Hi,

It depends on ur application....if u require exact measurement than u hav to buy it....but for just rough ideas of weight u can even design it urself.U can make it using linear potentimeter and simple pen spring,or u can make use of two parallel plates with spring and differential amp to measure capacitance change b/w plates when weight applied.

The main aim of our sensor is to calculate the exact displacement propotional to weight applied...that is simplest logic for making weight sensor.

Assalamo Allykum !

I want to implement the Digital PID using the PIC Microcontroller.

I am using the built-in Dc of the PIC Microcontroller. I am providing the reference to the PIC by the Keypad and taking the feedback from the sensor.

If the feedback of the sensor is less the reference then there is no problem in the Error generation. But when the feedback is greater than thereference ten the error is negative.

If the error is negative then how I can output this to the DAC. I am generating the corresponding error using DAC.

If the error is +ve then the DAC is generating the corrrect error in the terms of the Voltage.

But

If the error is negative then the DAC is not generating the correct output.

Basically I am Implementing the PID Controller for the Motor Positioning Control System.

I am using the Equation of the Digital PID given in the book "Modern Control System" BY Dorf.

I am implementing the equation in the z-transform.

If any one have anyidea about this then please send it to me. I will be very thankful to u.

If any one have implement the Digital PID or If any one have the Project Report related to the Implementation of Digital PID then please send it to me.

Hello Deepak,

As I mentioned earlier u just hav to take one pen spring and put that one in same dia pipe. Now make piston type arangement just above that spring and attach ur Linear POT to that piston rod.Make sure at zero weight the the piston is completly out with Linear POT to its max or Min resistance value.Take zero rsistance point of Linear POT as zero weight point.now increase weight on rod until spring gets compressed just completely. So here u get Max point. Now u can link spring diplacement with weight applied using maths equations.

Further ti improve resolution of ur sensor .... just take different weights and measure the resistance value of POT with these weights.U can now make a look up table for sensor with diffrent weights and program that in ur Microcontroler or just some linaer equation and use that to correspond POT resistance with weight applied to Sensor.
Beleive me this technique works very very fine .....just need little bit of R&D......but it wil save ur lots of money as Load cells are very very costly.

Hop it will help u out.

i have the magazine as a reference... havent tried the source code
given with that as i have got a different program which was
specifically coded for a MEGA32... the problem is that with AVRSTUDIO
compiler i'm gettin errors for statements such as typedef char( error:
undefined macro for both typedef and char) and ponyprog compiler just
isnt compiling the program neither is it displaying any errors.
i thought of using the code provided with the efy mag as a last resort...
thanks for mentioning it though. if u can provide some solution to
this problem i would really appreciate it.

Take Care

So u can use any logic to convert displacement of sping to weight.....and ur cheap homemade sensor is READY.

Hop it wil help u out

Hi,

The exact name for weight sensors is Load cells. They easy available in market and are commonly used in Digital weighting machines.
Just search for LOAD cell in google nearest to u....but they r costly.

I am Ahmed Abdulwhhab
I progrma PIC using MIKROC as a tool
my current project is to switch sensor on when a person has a space
between my circut nearly 15 cm
i use two sensors
the first IR TX and IR RX which is used in serial interace (1838) at
38 KHZ which is used in Remote control
the second sensor
is the IR as a transmitter and the receiver is PhotoDiode

I found after some experiments that the corroect IR Tx can be done
by 555 as timer (R1=100 ohm , R2=10K as varible resistence and
C=10nf)

hav a nice day

Hai my name is rina

I have make a programming in mikroC..so that the sensor will detect the
wall and it's works. but my problem is how to assigned a value to each
of the cell of the maze and how to make the robot know the size of each
cell..

i'm using DC motor, PIC16F788A, ir sensor
thank you

Hai,

The source code is written for ATmega8515 micro. You can modify it to ATmega32.

Use Winavr jan 2007 compiler for comiling the source code.

Hi

I am trying to program the mega8 using the UCmicrosys's UCflash AVR
programmer. I am using winAVR for this. However, winAVR needs me to
specify the kind of programmer type while making the makefile which i
need before i can compile my code.

Unfortunately, the UCflash programmer does not appear in the list
given. I tried using the BSD and interfacing my mega8 using hte LPT1
port. Unfortunately, the winAV was now able to open the LPT port. I
dont know why. I went through your parallel port interfacing book, and
i have tried everything including useport, lpt.exe, etc. I hace
checked my LPT port settings in BIOS and i have verifed the address.
My motherboad is Intel945 original chipset, which i beleive is
creating the problem.

Anyways, so I am back to the programmer for which i spent around
3000Rs. I am not able to undestand how to create the hex file using
WinAVR which i can uploadto the spftware module which came with my
programmer.

Please help as i m totally confused right now. This is ugent.

Thanks
Udit
