Hybridization and Evolution of Oaks
Green Spring Gardens
November 11, 7:30 p.m.
with our own Alan Whittemore
Have an oak in your yard that you can't quite identify? It's not quite
this
or not quite that? Can't get the hang of keying out oaks? There may be a
good,
genetic reason why. Hear Alan Whittemore, PhD., research taxonomist with
the
U.S. National Arboretum, discuss oaks and learn about their wanton ways of
hybridizing.
The program is free and open to the public.
Directions to Green Spring: From Interstate 395, exit at Rte 236, Little
River Turnpike, and head west to Braddock Road. Turn right and proceed
about 1/4 mile north to the park's entrance. The talk is in the
Horticultural Center
which is to the far right in the main parking lot.
