Hi Rudy,

Rudy> Well, OK, then. I have an important Boxer question for you. Why
Rudy> is the monkey (blush) naked??? Shouldn't he be wearing boxer
Rudy> shorts? ;-)

The Text Monkey is an extremely rare species. I was lucky to get any
kind of image at all. I caught this one early in the morning, before
he'd had a chance to dress for the day. ;-)

Have you explored his vocabulary?

Best,

David

i've been evaluating text monkey, throwing a lot of different things
at it...

for the most part i'm happy with it (boxer integration would be great
:)

i noticed that it doesn't handle css tags. one of the html email i
tried was completely stripped except for the css information at the
top.

4 days into my evaluation and text monkey saves my butt.

i just registered.

i didn't think i'd have an actual use for it as i do a lot of really
heavy text maniplution in perl. but for sheer speed of getting
something done it really is indespensible...

quick question: do i install it over the evaulation version (or
uninstall the eval version and install the full)?

thanks. you'll be happy to know that the the pro version cleans up css

'web' tab removed those.

"Cannot focus a disabled or invisible window."

I really had expected him to tell me about bananas or trees, but OK.

I have monkey pro, demo version. When I clicked the OK button on the error message, I think it quit as I didn't see the icon in the tray. I was able to launch it again manually. The error message is in the clipboard view area, probably from the initial run. It seems to be OK now.

I'm sure this has something to do with my dual monitor setup. I was changing the configuration several times and settled for disabling the second monitor, making it a single monitor system, when I rebooted.

FYI, I had to change to a single monitor configuration because Windows 2000 print screen utility, "Print Key 2000," always captured a 2 screen wide image even if the "ATI Hydravision Desktop Manager" was running. The ATI utility makes the monitors behave as two spaces (2 x 800x600) instead of one large space (1 x 1600x600).

Thanks for the report. I'm not sure there's any "actionable
intelligence" in there, but it's good to have on hand in case it turns
up again.

I too use a dual monitor setup from ATI, and it was quirky at first.
Once it's working, it's a godsend.

When I try to open a file without cr/lf(s). i.e a big
data stream with fixed length records i.e. 5888 bytes
each. I get the following error msg:

"One or more over length lines were encountered while
reading the file. The offending line(s) have been
split and the excess text moved to a new line."

What I would like is an opportunity to tell Boxer what
the fixed record length is and have it break the
records there. Any ideas? Any macros already written
to break them up and put the partials back together?

Thanks,
Glenn

I have a Macro that will replace every instance of a certain character with
cr/lf - but i dont know of one doing it by position.

For this king of file manipulation I create a filter using TextPipe
http://www.crystalsoftware.com.au/textpipe.html it is a bit strange to use
at first, but when you get used to it it is really useful.

I would find this capability useful, as well, but it needs to be combined
(perhaps automatically) with reformatting to a line width that's narrow
enough to not wrap with normal settings of an e-mail browser. I just used
Boxer to do this with your comment here:

I am glad you found a solution, I am not a programmer so I really need good
SW like Boxer and Textpipe to help me (still trying to find ways to get the
Monkey to help me though).

In answer, the expanded title would be as in my amended footer.

The reality is that I am the resource to manage European B2B EDI and XML
connections, mapping and associated problems (We have nothing in the Middle
East of Africa!) - But it is still too much, so I already quit last month
and will finish at the end of June to move back to North West England and
take up a new career as unemployed guy who used to do something with
computers :-)

i guess what i really need is to reformat the lines in the clipboard
editor so that it's wysiwyg, and then by adding the '>' to every line
in the clipboard editor, once pasted will give me what i want.

when i finally paste i want all the lines to look like the example i

Hi Tony/Rudy,

I agree that an option to reapply quoting after cleanup is a good idea.

>>It sounds like you're suggesting that > be applied in the middle of a
>>line,

tony> no, at the beginning of every line as shown in the clipboard
tony> editor.

Tony: I still think we might no be communicating well, but when the
viewer is in wordwrap mode, the beginnings of wrapped lines are
determined only by the window width.

tony> i guess what i really need is to reformat the lines in the
tony> clipboard editor so that it's wysiwyg, and then by adding the
tony> '>' to every line in the clipboard editor, once pasted will give
tony> me what i want.

I think what you want to do is use the:

    "Reformat to XX characters wide"

option, picking an XX value that seems right to you. Using "Convert
line breaks to spaces" won't give the result (I think) you're hoping for.

In any case, watch for the requote option in a future release

Thanks,

David

ah, and with the 'insert with string option' i got exactly what i
wanted...thanks :)

there's so many different combinations to work with it's going to take
time to get a handle on all the power available...

Dave,

>>I agree that an option to reapply quoting after cleanup is a good idea.

Sounds good. I'd like to make two suggestions about it, though. First, I
would use it quite regularly in conjunction with reformat-to-width, so I
hope you'll either make them a single operation or easily doable together.
Second, I would think of it as a "quote" feature, rather than a "requote"
feature. If I had this feature conveniently available, for example, I would
probably turn off the quote feature of my e-mail program, so the material
wouldn't come to you quoted in the first place. I would also use it with
material from other sources.

I doubt that you really would have any state information around that would
prevent this from working on material that didn't come in quoted, but your
selection of the word "reapply" made me wonder. :-)

I second the motion for integration with Boxer, by the way. If I could
define Boxer macros that run Text Monkey on a selected block, all sorts of
good things are imaginable. :-) Integration might simply consist of the
ability to define macros that copy the block to the clipboard, run the
specified Text Monkey operations, and paste from the clipboard. But I'm sure
you already noticed that. ;-)

Hi

I seem to be a little confused about what's going on
with Boxer macro's, hope you can help.

The following macro seems to always find a space at
the end of the line, regardless of whether there
is one or not
macro mymac(void)
{
     char ch;
	 EndOfLine;
	 ch = ValueAtCursor();
     if(ch==" ")
     {
		 Message("it's a space",ch);
     }
     else
     {
         Message("not a space",ch);
     }
}

This macro seems to never find a space at the end of
the line regardless of whether there is one or not.
Adding another "Left;" seems to not change it's
behavior.
macro mymac(void)
{
     char ch;
     EndOfLine;
     Left;
     ch = ValueAtCursor();
     if(ch==" ")
     {
		 Message("it's a space",ch);
     }
     else
     {
         Message("not a space",ch);
     }
}

Thanks

Quick answer: try:

   if (ch == ' ')

so that you're comparing apples to apples (chars to chars).

I'll check and see if the char-to-string comparison needs attention.
In a conventional language, that wouldn't even compile, but Boxer's
language tries to be flexible when it can be.

Best,

David
