Thanks Colin. From the Brightcove 3 console, can you navigate back to
Brightcove 2? I don't see a link in the upper corner like there is in the old
Brightcove 2 console to get to 3.

The old style console is still online, your client could create the
player you need in there, using one of the older templates.

You could also take the swf that needs to hold the player and make
just that part of the site be AS3 based, and then use one the new
templates.

Okay, I think the answer is 'NO' for the current Brightcove 3 players (if not,
please let me know!).

So next question is -- If I'm limited to working with an AS2 Flash site and the
client needs a Brightcove player within it (and they have a Brightcove account),
is there an option to access and use the older AS2 player templates instead of
the new AS3 ones?

Hello,

I have a custom ad translation layer .swf which I use with Brightcove 3
to integrate the BC player with my ad server.
I have the .as code for this as well.

The original code designer is no longer available. I need to find an
AS3 programmer who knows how to design and edit the code for Brightcove
3 ad translation layer. If you don't know what an ad translator is or
what the Brightcove ad API is, then you're probably not the right
person for the job.

I estimate about 2 hours work for an experienced programmer.
I can pay competitive rate via Paypal for the programming service.

Please let me know if you can help me?

thanks, Aaron

Hello Everyone -

<param name="@videoList.featured" value="6061981001" /> doesn't seem
to be working at http://www.sciam.com/video.cfm?id=6061981001.

I'm not sure when it stopped working. Has something changed about BC3?

I am trying to load up a custom component using <swfLoader> in my
Beml template. For some reason, the swf is not showing when i
preview it in the studio. I published the swf as flash player 9 and
set the framerate to 30. Is it possible it is a cross-domain issue.
the swf file is peretty straightforward. just a swf with some text
on the stage.

this is my BEML

Yes there is a specific toke or each operation (read / write). You
need to request a write token.

There is a different token for the write API. You'll have to get that
one from support. That way you can give your read API token out and
not have to worry about messing up any of the data in your system, and
then only give the write API token to those who are trusted.

These steps should do the trick -- thanks for the help, Brian!

* Using the API, which module allow for checking of automaticAdvance
(step 2 & 7) and how do you get a handle to it?
* Using the API, how do you programatically advance to the next video
in the playlist

Thanks for the steps,
Under which module can I toggle autoAdvance (steps 2 & 7)? Also, how
to jump to the next video (step 8)?

Now I'm getting the following msg:

"InvalidTokenError"

Do I need a different token to use the write API?
This token has been working fine with the read API.

I'm excited to announce a set of new Brightcove hosted and supported
forums that are available here:

http://community.brightcove.com/brgh/?category.id=developers

These forums have a ton of features that we are excited about:
tagging, kudos and accepted solutions.

Additionally, and most importantly, the new forums are actively
monitored by our engineering, support and product teams. Over the
coming months, the yahoo brightcove-dev forum will be monitored less
frequently by Brightcove employees as we spend more time on the new
Brightcove hosted forums.   We hope and encourage you to post future
questions there.

We look forward to seeing you there!

So, I exported a video, from Adobe Premiere Media Encoder, as FLV
854x480...

I have created a BEML player that has an 854x480px wide video area...

Long story short, the video was letterboxed on the sides.

I am assuming that I need to output my video as squar pixels in order
to get it to fit?

Also, the output settings I used were not far from the standard
suggested settings for 480x270 footage... I think I just boosted the
bitrate up a tad.

Looked pretty good.

Tips? Thoughts? Suggestions? Advice?

Hello,

I was going to try and create a player, based off of the BEML template
"Widescreen_with_Horizontal_List.xml", with the dimensions of 854 x 480:

480 x 16 / 9 = 853.33 which is generally rounded up to 854

Can anyone suggest encoding recommendations?

<http://help.brightcove.com/publisher/docs/media/video-specs.cfm>

Any tips for working with larger sizes? Pitfalls?

Many thanks in advance!

Cheers
Micky

Hello developers,

I've been tasked to create my first Brightcove 3 video player, and I'm
getting my environment set up and things are starting to work. I've
gone to the console, logged into my client's account, copied the
BrightcovePlayer.as code, put it into a directory next to my FLA,
assigned it to my document class, published the file and SHAZAM! A
working video player appeared! Very cool.

Now, I want to add all of my custom features. I'm programming in
Eclipse using FDT, so I downloaded the BrightcovePlayerAPI.swc and
added it into my project as a linked library. I can code properly now
without using generic objects, but so far have been unsuccessful in
publishing a working player. I followed the instructions on this page:

http://help.brightcove.com/developer/docs/playerapi/player-SWC.cfm

I created a class called BasicPlayer that sits in the same folder as
my FLA and my BrightcovePlayer class. I added the path to the swc to
my classpath in Flash. When I try to view my player, either in the
Flash IDE, or in a browser page being served over http, I'm getting
this error:

VerifyError: Error #1014: Class
com.brightcove.api::BrightcovePlayerWrapper could not be found.

	 at global$init()

Here's what my createPlayer function looks like:

	 protected function createPlayer():void{
		 log("createPlayer()");
		 var player:BrightcovePlayer = new BrightcovePlayer();
		 _bcPlayer = new BrightcovePlayerWrapper(player);
		 addChild(_bcPlayer);
	 }

It works fine when I do this instead:

	 protected function createPlayer():void{
		 log("createPlayer()");
		 var player:BrightcovePlayer = new BrightcovePlayer();
		 addChild(player);
	 }

Can anyone tell me how to get past this error? I've seen this sort of
thing before, when classes in shared libraries are referred to before
they've been loaded. Is there such a thing as a
BrightcovePlayerAPI.swf that I need to load?

Thanks in advance for any help you might offer!

If this is not the correct place to ask this question - where should I
pose it?

I searched for some of the things I could trace while trying to figure it out. For example, cuePointsAPI, and also old functions like getTitleById. Neither of those show any matches when searched for on that page.

Here's some more info on this.

I don't know if AS has a built-in way to do JSON-RPC or not, but basically the post body needs to look like this:
{"method" : "delete_video",
"params" : {"token" : "myValidSecretToken",
"video_id" : 17035,
"cascade" : true}}

Hi Joel, I asked someone else here about it, and this was the response:

The error they are getting is because they are passing each parameter seperatly. I think it would work if they only pass one url variable named json with the json-rpc object as the value.

OK - I wasn't using POST before - but now I am.
Here's the func:

private function delClip(myClipObj:Object){
    var loader:URLLoader;
    var url:String = "http://api.brightcove.com/services/post"
    var myRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);

    var myVars:URLVariables = new URLVariables();
     myVars.command = "delete_video";
    myVars.video_id = myClipObj.id;
    myVars.cascade = 1;
    myVars.token = "myValidSecretToken";
    myRequest.data = myVars;
    myRequest.method = URLRequestMethod.POST;

    try {      &nbs p ;
        navigateToURL(myRequest); // I also tried sendToUrl and using a Loader
    }
    catch (err:Error) {
        view.displayTxt("dumpTxt", err.message, null);
    }
}

Now I get the following error message:

{"error": {"name":"MissingJSONError","message":"Could not find JSON-RPC.","code":211}, "result": null, "id": null}

What are the usual bcPlayer methods that you are trying to call?  You should call getModule(), naming the module you'd like to access, and then call methods and properties on this object.  See the player API for more information: http://help.brightcove.com/developer/docs/playerapi/player-API.cfm

Thanks, I did track that down. What to search for isn't obvious when you're used to the BC2 bcPlayer contains everything approach.
