Jim,
Basically, you will not hear much degradation in the bass when you
move to the DX3. You will have to add a couple of ohms of series
resistance, but other than that you shouldn't need to change the filter.
What you get when you move from the DX2 to the DX3 is more detail, yet
more clarity and a generally more involving sound. The folks how
auditioned my speakers at the Dallas meet heard this kind of
difference between the Fostex FE207E (a very good driver at the price)
and the DX2. Both speakers have the same general voicing (that's what
I do!), yet the FE207E sounded very good, but was just there. The DX2
really draws you into the music. You will have the same experience
with the Lowther upgrade. Now, whether the improvement is worth the
price is your call. If the cost is not overwhelming, then I would do it.
