I also got some buff mottled, and a cream mottled as I just finish my breeding, here are some pictures of my stock for sale, you can have a look at birds for sale www.belgianbeardedbantams.com

Hi I am so please for you to start your new breeding program with the
Belgian Bearded d'Uccles, I would love to help you unfortunatly my
d'Uccles aren't laying yet, its a bit early for the d'Uccles to lay, I
be also honest to you regarding the d'Uccles as I would like to see
this beautiful breed get the proper type and hopfully more breeders
take them, the type of the d'Uccles are very poor in this country, to
long on the legs, narrow on body and also big combs. I just visited the
top breeders in Belgium and wow I wish you were there!!! super type,
small and very broad birds with very neet small comb. I am sure it will
be a few no many good breeders in this country but I sugest to ask
Robert Rees our club secretary for advice on good breeders,he is very
helpful. In scotland was a lady call Mrs Morton I remember her having
some super d,Uccles but I lost her contact. Also try Caroline Hadley,
tony Jose or Derek Elvy you sould have those members name on your
introduction new members pack. But if you decided to visit Belgium
breeders I maybe be able to help. Good luck
What colours have you got?

We used to have a lovely small flock of 9 d'uccles at our previous
house. Unfortunalely our landlord's dog could not be controlled so we
had to give them away, along with our other chickens. ANYWAY we would
love to start a new d'uccle clan at our new house and would like to

different colours and would like our new girls to be the same. Have

Many thanks - they have just found their voices and were seeing which
one had the loudest - hence the stance hehe hopefully the competition
will settle (or I will invest in ear muffs!) - they have had a few
tussles with each other but now seem to have found a pecking order-
well that is until springtime, then I assume it will start over.

Hi there - many thanks for looking, I am now a bit confused as I I
didn't realise wattles were not allowed? Looking at the British
Belgian Club standard I read "Wattles are rudimentary, or as small as
possible, so as not to detract from the shape of the head and neck
plumage. " am I interpreting this incorrectly? I really am interested
in this breed and would like to breed some nice show stock, starting
with the wrong idea in my head could be disastrous LOL
My cocks are only young (born last May) and have had a few tussles -
pulling out each others beards in the process :( could this make the
wattles appear more pronounced?
You Birds look lovley and obviously much more mature than mine are.
Are you in the uk? I would love to buy some Good foundation stock from
a Breeder/exhibitor of this lovley breed.
Many Thanks Again

Realise I didn’t post an update on this previously.
Had a post-mortem done on the cockerel and it came back as most likely
cause of death from coccidiosis. There was a very heavy secondary bacterial gut
infection of various bugs too. Â I was a little surprised as there was no
evidence of diarrhoea unlike my hen that died earlier in the year. I did ask about
cross infection from wild birds, pheasants, peacocks, pigeons etc but they said
coccidiosis was rather host specific and they didn’t it likely to have come
from them. They also said avian TB was rather rare and I think they excluded
this at the PM. I have to say his symptoms did fit with the TB symptoms though.
I did have a thought that earlier in the year my euphorbias were
very heavily pecked by some birds (?which) and the sap is quite caustic. I do
wonder therefore if this might have caused damage to the gut with the
thickening/scarring that was observed at PM. That might then present the
opportunity for various bugs to take over including the coccidia. Anyhow, I
have treated the remaining flock with baycox although decided not to treat them
with baytril.
I would be interested to hear any comments on the above.
Cheers,
Matt

Looks like it’s virtually impossible to
treat an infected bird and given the numbers of pigeons, wild birds and
peacocks that frequent the garden I can only imagine replacement birds would
likewise become infected. Also I presume we will have to stop eating the eggs.
Has anyone else here had avian TB
problems?

Thanks for that Rob. What a great age and great character. Some of
my ladies are getting rather white at 4 so I can imagine what they must look
like at 12.
My barbu d’uccles used to have very strong roosting habits
and one used to fly up to 40 feet up a tree. They certainly don’t like
being caged and seem to get quite depressed if left in their run over a
weekend.

Hi Matt, i'm a bit of a late comer to the
topic, but the oldest
d'uccle i knew of, was at least twelve years old on her passing.
she belonged to a friend of mine, who inherited her as the sole
survivor of a flock belonging to his father, who reluctantly had to
give her up when he moved house. She was a much loved pet who refused to
be penned, and had free range of an orchard and a large garden, not to
mention endless acres of surrounding farm land. Miraculously, she
evaded the attentions of the local foxes, and roosted every night in a
cotoneaster bush beneath the kitchen window. she breakfasted every day
in the kitchen with the family, competing with the dog for the crusts
sneaked under the table by the children. one february morning,
"Martha"
didnt appear for her breakfast, and was discovered lifeless, but
unmarked, beneath her favourite cotoneaster roost. she was feather
perfect, virtually snow white(she had been a glamourous Millefleur in
her youth), and was laid to rest under the Kitchen window.
