During the school year 2005-2006 there had been several parent, teacher, and administrator discussions that discussed the issues arising from the adoption of a new Math curriculum within the district. These threads also discussed the different options at each school, as well as the gaps that exist when students move from elementary school to middle school; and from middle school to high school. The gaps also exist when students move to other schools within the district, or to one of the several option programs offered by the Beaverton School District.
While some schools have moved forward with adoption of the newly adopted Math curriculum, some schools have retained the earlier curriculum. Some schools offer several different Math levels based on student ability within each grade level, others have no more than one choice.
This list is a communication vehicle for parents to share information about their student's experiences with the programs, so that a consistent parent message can be communicated to the Beaverton School District staff responsible for Math curriculum options at all grade levels.
The overall goal is to better understand the implementation goals the district has for providing a comprehensive Math curriculum for all grade levels, and to serve all student needs.
To become a member of the group, you must have a Yahoo ID, and request permission to join the group. Membership is open to parents interested in understanding how Math is taught in our schools.
This list is NOT an official communication of the BSD. Email addresses are available to members only.
