Hi Bug Experts!

I got bit twice whilst in bed the last two months in two clusters of about 8-12 bites on my back. Some were in a spiral line. Very itchy red raised spots. My mother said it is not possible that it is a bed bug nor fleas as we are all hygienic and everything is new.

I have brand new bed and mattress with clean sheets, but found this bug crawling across the sheets. I have brand new bed and mattress with clean sheets, but found this bug crawling across the sheets. It is very small 3mm long and 1 mm wide and a dark burgundy shiny colour.

Could this insect be the culprit that bit me a few weeks ago? Or is he harmless beetle just happening to take a stroll across my bed?
