The bvi is a display-oriented editor for binary files, based on the vi texteditor. If you are familiar with vi, just start the editor and begin to edit! I found the problem, stty. Typing in terminal: #stty -a Returns: speed 9600 baud; 48 rows; 90 columns; lflags: icanon isig iexten echo echoe -echok echoke

... ^Y in the terminal version of vim works correctly. And thank you for the great tool. I am cross-compiling an embedded systems app. bvi gives me great views
