If you haven't seen it, do you want to? If you have seen it, did you like it? Well, that's a bit of a play on the advertising for THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES. I have seen it, and, well, I'm going to write a piece about it. I don't like to spoil anything for anybody going to a movie, so I don't want to say too much here. I'll say a couple of things. If you are planning to see it, don't wait too long. I guessed on my show that it would do 60 to 70 million dollars domestically. I may have been overly optimistic, even though it came in fourth in the box office estimates for this weekend. If you have seen it, I'd be curious to hear what the crowd was like. We had about 25 people on a bargain matinee on a Saturday. The crowd (if you can call it that) also looked to be averaging over 30 years of age...not a good sign for box office. I don't think the movie will have hurt the popularity of weird stuff, and it has had some nice peripheral effects. The book of the same name by John A. Keel has been re-issued, and I can recommend it very strongly (although I do have to warn you about some currently politically incorrect descriptions of witnesses). Also, the F/X documentary, SEARCH FOR THE MOTHMAN, was a pretty good treatment. We got to see quite a bit of John Keel, some of the original witnesses, and Loren Coleman. While no one would say it was an unbiased examination, it used enough original materials to be a good record.
