Hi!

I think you probably all know that I mostly keep the first airings up to date in the current year article at Scifipediat at http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/2007 .  However, since there are a couple of new series starting this week, I thought I'd send one of these.  :)

WE (Women's Enterntainment) has decided to go for Saturday nights as a weird night:

September 8, 8:00 PM: EXTRENE GHOST STORIES series debut (on WE) TV Series
September 8, 9:00 PM: RESCUE MEDIUMS series debut (episode: Unraveling the Mystery) on WE (Paranormal TV Series)
September 8, 9:30 PM: The Lions, Tigers and Birdhouses episode of RESCUE MEDIUMS debuts on WE (Paranormal TV Series)
September 8, 10:00 PM: Second season debut of JOHN EDWARD CROSS COUNTRY (episode: Vanessa and Chris Williams) on WE (Paranormal TV Series) 

RESCUE MEDIUMS features psychic sisters-in-law Christine Hamlett and Jackie Dennison.  Rather than being ghostbusters, they approach it as rescuing the spirits.

EXTREME GHOST STORIES takes a scarier approach.

John Edward will be back to speaking for the dead and entertaining the living.

Just wanted to mention a couple of things.
 
The Sci Fi Channel is debuting a new series on June 6 at 10:00 PM called Destination Truth.  It's a globe-trotting look at the paranormal.  Josh Gates hosts, and it will focus on cryptozoology (http://www.scifi.com/destinationtruth/) (http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/Destination_Truth).  That channel is also running new episodes of Ghost Hunters
 
May 29th at 10:00 PM sees a new episode of the History Channel's series, UFO Files.  It focuses on UFOs of the 70s, which was an era when a lot of people got interested.  It saw the twin flourishings of what appeareed to be more nuts and bolts evidence and a huge combination of weird things that argued against the "cosmic bus" theory.
 
I wanted to mention that first runs of shows are listed in Scifipedia's 2007 article (http://scifipedia.scifi.com/index.php/2007) .  I'm a frequent contributor there (it's part of the Sci Fi Channel, but I'm not.  ;)).  There are also articles on the shows, the phenomena, and so on, and I've done quite a few of those as well.  It's a wiki (user-contributed encyclopedia), so things I post certainly get changed by other people from time to time.  Still, I think it's an excellent resource, and I'd be happy to see more people from this list posting there.  The content quality has been good, and the intent is to have it be a reference work rather than an opinion site.  It's still in the early stages, but is closing in on two million hits.

Thanks to Chad Arment of http://www.strangeark.com for alerting us to a story on Champ (the Lake Champlain monster) possibly airing on ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA on Monday, February 13th.  I say "possibly", because you never know when a segment like that will actually run (and not get knocked off the air by Michelle Kwan, for example).  Here is a link (I also got it from Chad) to a news story about it: http://www.pressrepublican.com/Archive/2006/02_2006/021220062.htm .
 
For more information on Champ, you can watch AMERICA'S LOCH NESS MONSTER (2003), which is running on the Discovery Channel on Saturday, February 18 at 9:00 AM.
 
As long as I'm getting this out, here are some other upcoming programs:
 
The Travel Channel is having a haunted day on Friday, February 17.  They are mixing episodes of AMERICA'S MOST HAUNTED PLACES and MOST HAUNTED.  It runs from the afternoon through the night.
 
The Sci-Fi Channel is doing a paranormal block on Wednesday, February 22. They have PROOF POSITIVE in the morning, and GHOST HUNTERS in the evening.  They will also run several GHOST HUNTERS eps on February 15th. 
 
The History Channel has a UFO FILES mini-marathon on Saturday, February 18.  It starts at 10:00 AM and runs through 4:00 PM.  That night, they also run UFOS AND THE WHITE HOUSE at 8:00 PM.

There are quite a few things coming up...if you have basic cable or satellite, of course.  If you are a Loren Coleman fan, I'd particularly recommend the CREEPY CREATURES episode of WEIRD TRAVELS on THE TRAVEL CHANNEL on Monday, January 30 at 1:00 PM.  Loren  sort of bookends the show, which has long segments on The Jersey Devil and Mothman. It's not the best coverage of the topic ever, but Loren is given more time than usual.  I was hoping to do a longer write-up on that and some of the other shows, but I felt it was more important to get this listing out in time for you to see them for yourself.
 
I've also tried to throw some of the years in after the shows, and to note when something is a debut. 
 
Some marathons: WEIRD TRAVELS on THE TRAVEL CHANNEL (Jan 30), UFO FILES on THE HISTORY CHANNEL (Feb 3), and a variety of haunting programs on THE TRAVEL CHANNEL (Feb 3).

Isn't that always the way?  As soon as I sent it out, almost, I decided to update it more.  My apologies for two mailings in one day.  However, I think the average number of mailings recently makes that tolerable.  :) 
 
One I want to especially apologize for missing: DEAD FAMOUS on THE BIOGRAPHY CHANNEL.  I'd be TIVOing it, if my cable company carried it.  You can get more information on it at http://www.biochannel.com.  Enter Dead Famous into the search that appears when you click All Programs. You can also get information at http://www.unknownmagazine.com/.   It's a series that normally runs on Tuesday night.

A CURRENT AFFAIR, one of the early "tabloid tv shows", purchased the video, and is planning to air it (in syndication) tomorrow (May 3 2005).

MYSTERIOUS ENCOUNTERS and ANIMAL X
 
Two shows are currently running on basic cable that have to do with cryptozoology.  ANIMAL X is a returning show with new episodes on ANIMAL PLANET, and MYSTERIOUS ENCOUNTERS is re-running on THE OUTDOOR LIFE NETWORK.
 
ANIMAL X (schedule:
 
This show deals with a wide variety of issues, from the Texas Bigfoot to ghost animals.  In the current incarnation, host Bill Kerr sends his "Natural Mystery Unit" (consisting of Daniel Searle and Natalie Schmitt) to different locations to investigate and document local happenings.  The show is heavily-produced: there are probably as many special effects shots per minute as in the last LORD OF THE RINGS movie.  Host Bill Kerr's dramatic delivery style is vaguely reminiscent of Anne Robinson of THE WEAKEST LINK.  He seems both avuncular and judgmental as he beams in and out on every line, surrounded by an aural glow.  During the investigations themselves, the team gets out into the field with the local experts.  They use high-tech gear, and are given to somewhat free speculation...both episodes I have seen saw them suggest some sort of conspiracy.  The witnesses and authorities (cryptozoologist Loren Coleman and fingerprint expert Jimmy Chilcutt, for example) are treated with respect.
 
The tone overall seems to go for the flashy, with some very dramatic recreations.  At the end, though, it doesn't make any unreasonable claims.
 
MYSTERIOUS ENCOUNTERS (schedule: http://www.olntv.com/showviewer.asp?sid=82&rm=true, homepage: http://www.olntv.com/htmlpage.asp?htmlid=137) on the other hand, plays more like a reality series.  Autumn Williams (http://www.oregonbigfoot.com/)takes her group of researchers to different North American sites to look for hairy bipeds.  While again high-tech, it feels like these are people who are sincerely on a quest.  The accuracy of the material in the voice-overs is good to see.  This seems to be made on a much lower budget, with material being repeated more often in each episode. 
 
Both series are worth watching for people interested in these topics, although the feel is very different for the two.

Zap2It reports that Peter Jennings' UFO special last night got pretty good
ratings.

In its first hour at 8:00, it was second to SURVIVOR, but beat JOEY and WILL AND
GRACE on NBC, the O.C. on Fox, and UPN and the WB.

At 9:00, powerhouse CSI easily took the hour, THE APPRENTICE was second but off
its normal numbers, and the UFOs were third.

I would assess this as encouraging for ABC (it did better than it might have
done otherwise), although they did put a lot of effort into promotion, with
Jennings stumping for the show.

OPUS, the Organization for Paranormal Understanding and Support (http://www.opus-net.org/), will be hosting an open conversation following the ABC PrimeTime Live presentation, PETER JENNINGS REPORTING: THE UFO PHENOMENON -- SEEING IS BELIEVING (http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/Primetime/story?id=468496).
 
OPUS is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization that has been in operation for over ten years.  Its activities include fielding hundreds of calls from people seeking help with UFO and other paranormal issues, including referrals to professionals.  OPUS also serves an educational function.
 
Scheduled to host the chat are: June Steiner, PhD, C.H.T., a psychotherapist and President of OPUS; and Bufo Calvin, Education Director for OPUS.  The intent is to provide a forum for people to discuss the show, and to answer questions they may have.

Parapsychologist Loyd Auerbach is teaming up with HCH
Institute in Lafayette, CA to present a Certificate Course
in Parapsychological Studies!!!!  This course is registered
with the California Bureau of Private Postsecondary and
Vocational Education is approved for CE Units for MFTs,

The basics: Parapsychological Studies: The Study of Psychic
Phenomena.
Contrary to what so many believe, the field of
Parapsychology studies much more than ghosts and hauntings.
Parapsychologists are generally not very psychic (and
psychics are rarely parapsychologists).  Parapsychology is
not "paranormal psychology." So, what’s the field all
about?  Just who are the parapsychologists and what do they
do?

This 60 hour course is an overview to the field of
Parapsychology, and the main areas of research and
investigation:  ESP, PsychoKinesis (mind over matter), and
Survival of Bodily Death. Included will be a general
discussion of where the field came from, where the major
centers of research are today, and where the field might be
headed. Students will have an opportunity to review some of
the basic research in the field and to apply the theories
and applications to their current helping profession or to
pursue parapsychological  field investigations on their
own.

All courses may be taken individually for Continuing

delve into theories of Time and Space that connect
Psychokinesis (PK) and Precognition.

and many others know today about PK, how it manifests

There will be an experiential PK segment to this class,

As for Precognition, Auerbach will cover questions such as:
Can anyone really predict the Future? How? Is there really
a Future that can be predicted? What is Time?  Can we
change the Future? Why do so many psychics miss on their
predictions?  What about the premonitions of the average
person? 

Parapsychologists have evidence that precognition exists.
Research indicates that people can predict some future
events, but not all. Sometimes precognition works well, and
sometimes not.

Loyd Auerbach will discuss a variety of theories of Time
and Timelines especially in the context of our apparent
ability to predict the Future. He'll cover the varied ways
precognitive information pops up in our lives and some of
the interesting research in Parapsychology. He'll discuss
conclusions reached by researchers about the nature of our
ability to foretell the future.

Finally, there will be a focus on a conundrum in
parapsychology: Do we predict the future or cause it to
come into being with a little help from our PK?  If the
former, how do we use this information to shape our own
personal Futures?

If the latter, what does that say about our beliefs and
expectations, and how all humanity consciously and
unconsciously shapes the Future?  Join us for what will be
a mind  bending experience.

The National Geographic Channel is running an episode of BEHIND THE MYSTERIES that presents Greg Long's contention that Bob Heironimus was "inside the suit" in the famous Patterson Bigfoot film.
 
The show premieres Sunday, January 30 at 6:00 PM Pacific, and then is repeated.  BEHIND THE MYSTERIES covers a variety of topics...the Bigfoot episode is followed by one on crop circles.

Not much happening this time, but that's not too much of a surprise...it's the "post-Halloween normalcy sets in" slump. Actually, it's just that they run a lot of weird programs around Halloween, and don't want to repeat them.

ALIEN SECRETS: AREA 51 (1997) is The Learning Channel on 11/11 at 10:00 PM.

Some people would consider this marginal, but AQUATIC APE (1999) is on the Discovery Channel on 11/8 at 9:00 AM. It addresses the theory that Homo Sapiens went through a semi-aquatic (at least shore) dwelling phase. It does explain a few things, like our odd hair pattern (hair basically only where there is a lot of friction, or on the top of the head...if you were mostly in the water swimming, it's a logical pattern). Some consider this more scientific than others, and it does come up in conjunction with those swimming hairy bipeds in the southern U.S..

HISTORY'S MYSTERIES addresses the OCCULT AND THE THIRD REICH (2002) on 11/4 at 12:00 PM (repeated that night at 6:00 PM). That's on the HISTORY CHANNEL.

The recently revived (and rapidly cancelled) IN SEARCH OF...has a re-run on the SCI FI CHANNEL on 11/9 at 2:00 AM. (2002)

INTO THE UNKNOWN: EASTER ISLAND MYSTERIES runs on THE DISCOVER CHANNEL on 11/9 at 3:00 PM.

There's a series running on DISCOVERY KIDS called MYSTERY HUNTERS. The episode on 11/4 at 12:00 PM deals with desert mummies and remote viewing, and the one on 11/5 at 12:00 PM examines the Loch Ness monster, among other things. By the way, it isn't the desert mummies doing the remote viewing...it's two different segments.

Let's plunge right in... AMERICA'S MOST HAUNTED PLACES will run the Chicago episode on the Travel Channel on Saturday, 10/25 at 8:00 AM. CROP CIRCLES: MYSTERIES IN THE FIELDS is on the Discovery Channel on Wednesday, 10/15 at 8:00 PM. The Sci-Fi Channel will re-run an episode of THE EXTRAORDINARY that deals with alien abduction, among other things, Tuesday 10/14 at 6:00 PM. GHOSTS OF GETTYSBURG haunt the History Channel on 10/17 at 10:00 AM. On 10/19 at 6:00 PM, you can go INSIDE AREA 51 via the Discovery Channel. Perhaps the most buzz-generating show of this issue is the NEW ROSWELL: KECKSBURG EXPOSED special on the Sci-Fi Channel on 10/24 at 6:00 PM. Just like "Bigfoot" is sometimes applied to any hairy biped story, so any UFO crash can be called a Roswell. This is an interesting case in its own right, and we'll see how the show goes. UFO CHRONICLES and UFOS: 50 YEARS OF DENIAL run on the Sci-Fi Channel on 10/14 at 4 and 5 PM, respectively. Later, at 11:00 PM, UFOS: WHAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW has the UFO HOT SPOTS episode on the same channel. This week's UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES (syndicated) is called CONTACT WITH THE OTHER SIDE. Well, I may have found a way to do this that's more efficient, so you may be seeing more of them again. I do consider it a public service. The Discovery Channel is re-running X-CREATURES on Sunday, 10/5 at 3:00 PM. It will be the episode on the Thylacine and British big cats. Thylacines were Tasmanian marsupial predators with a distinctive big mouth and striped hindquarters. They are officially extinct, although reports continue, and that includes from the Australian mainland. Big cats are reported in the British Isles (Exmoor is one location featured in this episode). While a small wildcat is known to be native, these reports feature cougar-sized animals. Also on the Discovery Channel, SECRETS OF LEVITATION will on 10/12 at 3:00 PM. This documentary is about people who levitate...which has been reported in some saints, as well as D.D. Home, to whom it supposedly happened involuntarily. The SCI-FI Channel will run UFO CHRONICLES on Tuesday, 10/14 at 4:00 PM. Yes, it's the return of the Media Alert!

For those of you who have kept your accounts active, I thank you.
Some of you have been with me since 1996, and you know there have
been dry spells. I don't want to mislead you into thinking that this
will be coming out weekly again, or even monthly. I just thought I'd
jump in with some information about the new season. Of course,
nowadays, the "season" on tv is a blurred continuum. Shows premiere
in the summer, the winter, whenever. September is still
the "official" start of the television year, so it seemed like a good
time to point out what's out there.

UNEXPLAINED MYSTERIES (one hour, syndicated) Call this one SIGHTINGS
REBORN. For weird tv, two series from the past have stood out: the
original IN SEARCH OF... and SIGHTINGS. A recent attempt to remake IN
SEARCH OF... was unsuccessful, although the episodes still show on
THE SCI-FI CHANNEL. This one could be different. Henry Winkler and
Ann Daniel from SIGHTINGS are on board, and Paramount is again
involved. I've seen one episode, and the feel is similar to
SIGHTINGS. It's not skeptical or scientific, but gives you the
feeling that "you are there" and talking to ordinary people.

there are only a couple of synopses available at this point) can be

TUESDAYS DECLASSIFIED (THE SCI-FI CHANNEL) This is really an
anthology of specials, but does present things that haven't been seen
on tv. There is an emphasis on UFOs, but that's not the only topic.
There are a pair of specials on alleged UFO landings: THE NEW
ROSWELL: KECKSBURG EXPOSED on October 17 (not a Tuesday), and
RENDLESHAM: THE UK'S ROSWELL on December 9th. Roswell has been good
to the SCI-FI CHANNEL, so it's not surprising they've titled these
two specials in that way. They have also run THE BELZER CONNECTION
recently, featuring Richard Belzer. For more information, see

This is just to let people know that I will be at the second annual Speakers Cocktail Party tomorrow night in Santa Clara, California.  Last year's event was great!  It was an opportunity for people to actually have a discussion with a famous figure in the UFO field, like Budd Hopkins or David Icke.  There was no real structure to the party: you could just walk up to someone and start a conversation.

I know this is late notice, and that I haven't sent anything out in a long time.  What changed my doing these weekly?  Well, a major influence was getting TIVO.  While I did do it as a public service, it grew out of me checking the listings for myself.  Now, TIVO does that for me.  I do think I'll go back to doing something for this eventually, but I thought I owed you that explanation.

Hi!

I thought I'd let you all know that I should be able to get back to sending
these out in the near future.  As you know, I just do this as a public
service.  Unfortunately, my "day job" had gotten very time-consuming.  I was
driving, on average, 100 miles a day and went from having four direct reports
in one location and department to 35 direct reports in four locations and
three departments.  That has recently settled down, and it won't be next
week, but maybe by the following week.

Also, I've gotten several e-mails recently from an anonymous sender about the
program THE EXTRAORDINARY having been on some time ago.  Thank you for the
information.  I was aware of that, but I freely admit that I don't always get
things updated.  However, I also don't think you are seeing it listed as
being scheduled.  I do leave things up intentionally that were previously
active, as a sort of historical record.  I apologize if this confused you
somehow.  If you know a specific last airdate, I'd be happy to include that.
Also, it would help if you let me know where you saw it.  The Reference
Center lists things that have not been on for some time, again for their
historical value.  I see that I listed a debut year that was later than you
indicate: I'd be happy to correct it with documentation.  My information sources
tend to be a little USA-centric on dates: it's likely there were different debut
dates in Australia and the US.  Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to
contact to me, and your concern for accuracy.  I hope you see this, since I'm
unable to contact you directly.

For those of you who have been waiting for these to resume, thank you for
your patience.  I never quite understand why some people unsubscribe because
there is a gap in these going out, but you can do that, certainly.

One quick mention (I don't want this to be "all about me").  SCARE TACTICS
begins broadcasting Friday on the SCI-FI Channel.  This is getting some
publicity.  It's a "hidden camera" show, but the situations into which they
put people are relevant to this list: faking an alien abduction, a Bigfoot
"attack", a haunted house, etc.  There's been some buzz about this...does it
help or hurt the people who investigate these things?  I'm out of time this
morning, but will try to give you my opinion...after I've seen it, of course.
