IGF set to liven up Internet's role in society

The four-day `Internet Governance Forum' (IGF) 2008 that is going to
take place from December 3rd - 6th at the Hyderabad International
Conference Centre (HICC), Hyderabad is all set to specify the tune of
the event from the very commencement. This has come to the knowledge
from the versions of the key organizers of this mega event. It should
be kept in mind that the two previous meetings of the Forum were held
in Athens in November 2006 and in Rio de Janeiro in November 2007.
Though the forum has always been concentrating on the more intensive
role of Internet in today's world, it is found to be more vigorous at
this time.

This greatest Internet congregation in the history is the
collaborative effort of several organizations at the same time. The
most prominent of them include United Nations Secretary-General -
Internet Governance Forum (IGF), Department of Information Technology
(DIT), National Internet exchange of India (NIXI) - supported by ISPAI
along with corporates like Sify, BSNL, Tata Communications and STPI.
There will also be the presence of, apart from these, a host of
distinguished speakers includes representatives of the Government,
private sector, civil societies, academia, Internet communities and
international organizations.

What is the theme of the congregation therefore? Well, the proposed
theme of discussions happens to be "Internet for All". It is stated
that Internet is competent to play greater roles in the society than
remaining as a means of communication only.

In this regard there will also be detailed discussions among the
eminent representatives on five major subject matters. This includes
reaching the next billion; promotion of cyber-security and trust;
precise management of significant Internet resources; taking stock and
the way forward; and emerging issues like the Internet of tomorrow.
The forum is confident that Internet is able to stimulate a country's
economy considerably to generate extensive socio-economic benefits if
used properly.

The `Internet Governance Forum' will also remain witness to a number
of panel discussions and workshops on several Internet related issues
than ever before. The most prominent of these are as Internet
accessibility for people suffering from disabilities; freedom of
expression in cyberspace; online privacy; mainstreaming human rights
in the work of the IGF and also efficient digital education. There
will also be discussions on several debatable subjects like child
protection and global measures to fight cyber-crime.

Expectations are mounting on the success of IGF.
