All:
I'd just posted a video I'd made incorporating musical selections from Paul
Norman's 'Forbidden Forest'.
It was made a few weeks sooner than the video with the Martin Galway music, but
it has been in competition at the CTV Videomakers' Competition at Sudbury
Cinefest 2006 (Canada's 4th largest film festival).
It is presently one of twelve finalists to be screened later this morning, and,
seeing as such, I thought there no harm posting the video now. Here is the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=40__ZifnGyc
Results of the screening (the awards will be given immediately following it)
will be posted both at c64rmx and on the text accompanying the video, itself.
I thank all who assisted me, particularly Paul Norman, who graciously consented
to let me use his music.

All:
I'd just finished and posted a video I'd made incorporating Martin Galway's
'Kong Strikes Back' music.
It's on YouTube at the following link:

Hopefully, this gains attention for the c64 as an overlooked music source.

I'm a filmmaker that uses c64 music to score several of my films, and am looking
to contact Martin Galway.
I was supplied his e-mail address a few years by another of this site's
contributors, and wonder if it is still the same.
Thanks,

I deleted the SID collections. Melevolyn, this group is for remixes not
the original SIDfiles. (you can find more (=most :) files at

Is this available as a recording somewhere? CD album, MP3, whatever? I am

Hopefully you did get started on episode 1 - if not, you're now 7
shows behind. The latest episode was published on

I've got a server log that disagrees with you on that one.
In case people haven't noticed it I have been podcasting SIDs and remixes for
the past two weeks. Done 3 shows so far. Around 900 downloads and the numbers
are still going up.

Meant to announce it earlier but I've got an upcoming MCP test taking up all my
time these days.

Hi all!
As I woke up today, a tune was stuck in my head: Human Race tune #1. It just
kept going and going and going in my head... I'm sure all of you had similar
experiences, although lately it seems to be happening to me more frequently
than ever before.
So, when a SID tune gets stuck in my head like above, I pull out my trusty
HVSC, I double-click on the SID tune that got caged in my head and I listen to
it over and over and over again. When I had enough of that, I pull up my
WinAmp media library (all my MP3s reside on one giant 250GB HD), I search for
the given tune and start listening to all the remixes of the same tune. When I
am done with that it's already time to go to sleep so another tune can get
stuck in my head the day after.
Except today. Because today I had the brilliant idea: why not create a radio
show on SLAY radio or do a podcast where I play remixes of the same SID tune
and critique them and then select a winner that would be designated as the
"ultimate" remix of the given tune?
But then I thought, creating a radio show like this would take time and
effort, and I am super-busy already, not to mention I am a lazy bastard. Plus
who would want to listen to the same tune over and over again in a radio show?
Plus, why play it on a show when anybody can download these remixes from RKO
for themselves?
So, instead of doing all this stuff with fancy new names that is still
essentially the same radio as it was 100 years ago, I decided to do a simple
write-up like this.
Today in my head: Rob Hubbard's The Human Race, tune #1. There are 4 remixes
of this tune on RKO:
- Betweenzone's remix was released in July of 2000 and since then it gathered
a 73% rating.
- Graeme Norgate's remix was released in May of 2001 and has a 71% rating.
- Over Karlson's remix was released in August of 2000 and has a 72% rating.
- Finally, the remix by Das Karl Werk Projekt is very recent, just a few weeks
old, but it already gathered an 81% rating.
Wow, those ratings are pretty close to each other! Indeed, selecting the
Ultimate Human Race Tune #1 remix wasn't easy.
Ove's remix has the nice touch of including a short sample of the original SID
and while it's full of great ideas, I feel it is drawn out and seems to go on
and on with too much repetition.
Graeme's remix is what you would call a "solid average" remix - quite
enjoyable, but nothing special, although I still like the beginning of it.
Betweenzone's remix falls very much into the same catagory: starts out
promising, but then it fades into averageness. But considering both these
tunes were released 4-5 years ago, they are pretty good!
However, folks, I have to agree with the RKO voters here: Das Karl Werk
Projekt's superb remix is the Ultimate Human Race Tune #1 as of the writing of
this article. It's well-crafted with high nostalgic value (meaning it remains
very true to the melody and to the general spirit of the original), and even
tough I still think the piano piece at the end of it is out of place, it is a
great piano piece by itself.
So, Das Karl Werk Projekt: CONGRATS! You are today's winner! I'll think of a
prize later...

drinks, so there! =)

Makke - The Whatever You Want To Call It Show
- The Whatever You Want To Call It Show (a.k.a. The How Things Go Wrong Show)
is back for the last time! Maybe not quite, but at least it's the last time it's
broadcasted from the current Makke HQ, since he'll be moving back to good 'ol
Scania while awaiting further instructions from life.
Makke will as usual try to make a fool out of himself while playing your
favorite C64 songs, mixed up with some Amiga, NES, arcade, Playstation,
WHAT-HAVE-YOU-tunes! Grab a beer, or whatever you've near, and tune in for some
retroness-entertainment from the Swedish south.
(Entertainment not included!)
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
There will only be one show next week due to me being away the entire week.
So, make sure you've dusted off your best requests and join Boz, Kenz and their
guests on the last regular UK-based Z Show ever.

therefore this Sunday marks the last regular UK-based Z Show. But, we're going
out with a bang! Boz and Kenz are joined by special guests for this landmark
show. Come join us for a chat on IRC's EFNet network, channel #SLAYRadio, and
send your request in to the Request-o-Tron 3000(TM).

No updated news on the SLAY Radio Gathering on July 1-3, except that I am
awaiting a call from the Hotel I am trying to strike a deal with. They are not
so big, only 12 rooms (one and two bed rooms), so I am trying to get a fair
price for the entire hotel the entire weekend.
Anyway, more info on that will follow shortly.
Regards,
Slaygon
http://www.SLAYRadio.org/
Hello folks!
Some of you may have heard about a SLAY Radio gathering that is supposed
to take place the first weekend of July. You heard right! The ball has now
put in motion, and both Slaygon and fnordpojk are hard at work trying to
find the suitable place for all of us to meet up, drink loads of booze and
just mingle!
The thought behind the gathering is NOT to arrange a huge event with
live performances and stuff - We leave that to BIT Lite in September
(which now is officially confirmed by Chris Abbott)! Instead, we are
aiming for the cosy athmosphere, meeting up with friends and just talking
bull over a pint! Sleeping arrangements are done by the visitors
themselves. This "event" will happen in lovely Gothenburg/Sweden. Many of
the "so-cheap-it'll-only-cost-you-a-few-pints" airlines fly directly to
Gothenburg City Airport, including Ryanair.
To find a hotel, head over to http://www.hotelsinsweden.com/english/ and
see what is available in Gothenburg.
I would appreciate an email from you if you are certain you are coming!
See you in sunny Gothenburg in July! (Yes, I've ordered nice weather. They
promised to deliver in time!)
Oh, almost forgot. Here's the (thin) schedule for this week!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Wednesday, May 25 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Boz - Bowness Bit o' Bollocks
- Boz is back, showing his bollocks off again, for you to delight in.
Once again it's an interactive show - so send your requests to the
Request-o-Tron 3000(TM), and join him for IRC chats on the EFNet network,
channel #SLAYRadio.
Make sure you tune in for Mastering Swedish - Lesson 3 - Schomething schtranger!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday, May 28 - 2005 - 18:00 CET
Skitz - Saturday Night Warmup
- It's been another long week and you are getting ready to hit the
town.... why not tune into DJ Skitz and listen to some uplifting Bra
remixes of the classic C64 SID tunes!
------------------------------------------------------------------------
There will be no Z Show this Sunday, since there is a bank holiday in the
UK, and Boz will be away visiting his parents, saying good bye's and stuff
(those of you who haven't heard, he is moving to Sweden!)
Regards,
Slaygon
http://www.SLAYRadio.org/
Hi,
Those of you still not registered at http://www.slayradio.org/ should do
so pretty soon, because these emails will probably not be posted here in
the future - They will only be posted to registered users who have chosen
to get these emails.
I'm not sure exactly when this will happen, but it's not in the too
distant future.
Aaaaanyway, here's the schedule of this week!
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Tuesday, May 03 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Makke - SLAY Rated
- You've voted! We've counted! This time around, Makke will be the one
presenting the most popular remixes the past month. So don't miss the only
show on SLAY Radio that counts; SLAY Rated.
The Top Ten Rated page has been closed down until the show has been aired,
at which point voting will start all over again!
(you can still vote, right up until the show starts!)
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Wednesday, May 04 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Boz - Bowness Bit o' Bollocks
- After last week's shambling mess of Mastering Swedish Lesson 1, Boz is
back, with his bollocks in full effect, for you to delight in. Once again
it's an interactive show - so send your requests to the Request-o-Tron
3000(TM), and join him for IRC chats on the EFNet network, channel
#SLAYRadio.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Friday, May 06 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Slaygon & fnordpojk - SLAYhem
- Luckily it's been a while since SLAYhem made the bitstream unsafe for
anybody wishing to keep their ears intact. Bad news folks! WE'RE BACK!
We will be doing the usual crappy show, having endless discussions about
anything that is of no importance and we'll be taking requests through
both the Request-o-Tron 3000(TM) and through our very own bot on the EFNet
network on channel #SLAYRadio.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Saturday, May 07 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Skitz - Saturday Night Warmup
- It's Saturday Night and time for DJ Skitz.... you know the score, come
join me for some uplifting bra remixes of classic SIDs!
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
Sunday, May 08 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Boz and Kenz - The Z Show
- The Z Show is back again for another dose of malarkey. Requests as
usual via the Request-o-Tron 3000(TM), or join us for a chat on IRC's
EFNet network, channel #SLAYRadio.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

SLAY Radio - The only station offering a free TCP packet when you tune in!
http://www.SLAYRadio.org/
Hi folks,
You are facing a very active live broadcasting week here on SLAY Radio!
So make sure you book your calendar according to the following schedule!
Tuesday, April 26 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Thalamus - Rewind
- That crazy fool Slaygon has gone and given me a stab at a semi-regular show
based around pure, unadulterated SID music.
Rewind will debut on Tuesday 26th April and hopefully play regularly on the
second Tuesday of every month for starters, possibly ending up as a weekly show
in the future!
Join us on IRC channel #SLAYRadio for a chat (we're there even when there's not
a show on!)
Wednesday, April 27 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Boz - Bowness Bit o' Bollocks
- Boz is back, showing his bollocks off again, for you to delight in. Once
again it's an interactive show - so send your requests to the Request-o-Tron
3000(TM), and join him for IRC chats on the EFNet network, channel #SLAYRadio.
Thursday, April 28 - 2005 - 19:00 CET
Andreas Wallström & Slaygon - The Fleming Show
- Another installment of The Fleming Show is coming up on Thursday the 28th
of April, at 19-23 CET. Slaygon and Andreas Wallström will host the show as
usual, but several special guests are to be expected. Oh, and we promise to
play only the best remixes out there. :)
Requests are welcome on the Request-o-Tron 3000, and on IRC on the EFNet
network on channel #SLAYRadio!
Sunday, May 01 - 2005 - 20:00 CET
Skitz, Boz and Kenz - Z Show vs. SNW!
- Boz (along with the Unusual Suspects) is down in Milton Springsteen for his
"official" leaving party. This means that Skitz won't be near his studio for
the Saturday Night Warmup. But to make up for it, he's joining forces with The
Z Show to transmit a special show tonight, direct from SkitzHQ! Requests, as
usual, are welcome via the Request-o-Tron 3000(TM), and join us for an IRC chat
via the EFNet network, channel #SLAYRadio.
Hear you all on air!

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Hello SLAY Radio listeners!
We'd like to inform you of a new regular show, that will usually be
broadcast on the first Tuesday of each month. It's called "SLAY Rated" and
runs down through the top 20 songs that have been rated by you, the
listeners.
The first show will be hosted by DJ Skitz (of the Saturday Night Warmup)
on 12th April 2005, from 20:00 CET (GMT+1). As it's using the Top 20 Rated
list, it's not a usual request show; however, the host will, as usual, be
on IRC on the EFNet network, channel #SLAYRadio.
As mentioned, the list depends wholly on the listeners, and goes by the
number of GOOD votes that each song has acquired. And that's where you
come in! Whenever SLAY Radio is playing songs from the rotational
playlist, you can go to the website (www.slayradio.org), and on the left
hand side, you'll see the current song playing, along with a GOOD and BAD
vote button. Just press the button that reflects what you think of the
song, and the votes will be tallied up ready for the next SLAY Rated show.
So, make a date to listen to SLAY Rated, and keep your votes coming in
order to shape future shows!
- The SLAY Radio Team.
Hello SLAY Radio listeners!
We have some exciting news about the SLAY Radio website! Regular web and
IRC visitors may have heard that the website was in the process of being
updated, and we can now say that all work is almost complete and the new
site will be launched on SUNDAY 27th MARCH 2005, to coincide with the
One-Year Anniversary edition of The Z Show.
The main man behind rewriting the old crap that Slaygon produced for the
old web site is none other than Boz!
Slaygon handed him a static image of what he wanted the page to look like
and said;
- This is what I want to do. Can you do it?
- Sure, not a problem, said Boz.
A few days later Boz emailed Slaygon the first draft of the new site!
Yey for Boz! =)
So, what does the new site have? Well, first off, it's been completely
redesigned! The old format did it's job, but because of the new features
we also wanted to include, the old menu system would have been too clumsy.
So it gave us the opportunity to write the new site from scratch.
There's a whole new look and feel, which includes a two-tier menu system
for easier navigation. Also, every page has a left-hand column (the
LeftBand) that allows you to:
* Listen to SLAY Radio, in three levels of quality, or bring up the
Java-based player;
* View the currently-playing song (when on the automated playlist),
and VOTE on it (which gets added to a TOP TEN list);
* View (and optionally add) the "Shoutbox" - a quick way of getting
your views across on the website;
* List new additions to the Downloadable Shows
* View the latest song available on R:K:O;
* View the latest news from www.c64hq.com.
VOTING
------
As mentioned above, there is a new voting system on the LeftBand which
allows you to vote either "GOOD" or "BAD" for the currently-playing tune
on SLAY Radio. These votes are tallied up and are used on a new feature,
"Top Ten Rated" (which is available from Top Ten -> Rated on the new
menu).
These show you the most popular songs playing on SLAY Radio. Anyone
visiting the site can press the cross (bad) or checkmark (good) once for
each tune. It's a great way for people to show us what they think is hot
in the playlist and what is not.
REQUEST SONGS
-------------
In the regular playlist hours, you can request a tune. You have to be
logged in as a member (more info below), at which point you can go to
Member Area -> Request Song. From here, you can search the big database
of songs by name or artist, then click on [Queue] to add the song to the
queue.
You can also view an ETA of when your song will be played by going to
Member Area -> Current Queue.
The following rules apply for request:
* You can only request 5 songs per hour
* You can only request 20 songs per day
* The same song can't be played more than once every 4 hours
* The same artist can't be played more than once every 30 minutes
All this is done so that the songs played on the station aren't going to
be repeated too often!
MORE INTERACTIVE - IT'S YOUR RADIO STATION!
-------------------------------------------
We've made the site more interactive for you, the listener, to participate
in. There's the messageboard (like the old site), the Shoutbox and the
song requester (see above) to get your point across and hear the songs
you want, as well as the voting system to tell us what you think of each
of the tunes. The Top Ten lists have been updated, which directly show
what you've been listening to and rated.
DOWNLOAD PREVIOUS LIVE SHOWS
----------------------------
One of the most-requested items on your wish-list has been the facility
to download previous live shows. Perhaps you've missed a show that you
really wanted to catch, or there's a classic moment that you want to
hear again. We have good news - the downloads will be available very
soon. We have decided to use BitTorrents for this purpose. Once it's
up and running, you'll be able to Torrent the show you're interested
in. All we ask is that you leave your Torrent client open and share
the wealth. This helps us spread the shows quicker and easier, without
overloading our servers.
And it's your way of saying "thanks for the download!"
At this point, Slaygon would like to thank the following people who
already have "signed up" to seed the available shows:
Makke (gooooooood!)
Sonic Wanderer
fnordpojk
Eric "bamsefar" Jonsson
UL-Tomten
Dj_C
Jon Algra
MEMBER AREA
-----------
Some areas of the new-look site will require you to become a member.
For instance, there's the new Member's Area; and the Shoutbox and
messageboard
will need you to be logged in as well. Membership is free and easily
accessible by clicking on "login" at the top-right of any page.
AND IT DOESN'T STOP HERE!
-------------------------
Now that the new structure is in place, we will be adding new
functionality on a regular basis; so keep your eyes on the website
in the coming months!
Once the new site is up and running, we'd really like you to have a
look around; and of course, we'd love to hear from you!
See you online soon!
- The SLAY team
http://www.SLAYRadio.org/
Hi folks,
Kwed (of Remix.Kwed.Org fame) and I are currently looking for beta testers
for an upcoming bittorrent-based distribution of C64-related stuff. At
first we'll be using it for distributing mp3s of past SLAY Radio shows,
but later more content will be added later - such as the long-awaited
'one-click-downloads-all' RKO mp3s, Zzap!64 scans, and other worthy causes
we come across.
What we would need should be quite easy, at least for scandinavian people,
to fulfill:
1) Some hard drive space (well, some meaning a couple or more GB)
2) Reasonable outgoing bandwidth rate (better than cable at 1mbit)
3) Willingness to share your "wealth" with the upcoming non-beta users (at
least for the initial burst, and hopefully for a longer term)
4) Know how to download and share stuff through BitTorrent. (as you've
probably already figured out, this is the part that should be easy for
scandinavian people *grin*)
And what do you get out of it?
* Access to almost all of the SLAY Radio live shows that has aired, and
that before anyone else!
* The good and fluffy feeling inside when you know you've helped a lot of
people get happy!
Anyone interested? Email me!

Slaygon

SLAY Radio welcomes you to 2005 with our regular line-up of live shows:
Saturday 8th January 2005, 18:00 CET - The Saturday Night Warmup
DJ Skitz reclines in the command chair again and plays all your
favourite bangin' Commodore 64 remixes in the early evening, to get you
into the dance mood ready for going out on the town. "Let's partake of
the alcohol berverages... because their physical attractiveness
increases somewhat when one is intoxicated!" (or something).
Sunday 9th January 2005, 20:00 CET - The Z Show
The Zees are back with their usual mind-boggling meld of mixes and
mayhem. Boz and Kenz blabber incoherently, with the help of Lez and Mez
(sounds like a bad children's TV show - ed.). Just the show to get you
into the mood to tackle the Monday blues.
As usual, both shows welcome your requests on the Request-o-Tron 3000
(tm), found at http://www.slayradio.org/request.php.
May we take the opportunity to wish you all a very happy New Year, and
we hope 2005 brings you all you wish for.
All the best,
