Re: [cansecurity] What would you do?

Hi Fergus

First of all, Dawson has not professional security person, the person who is responsible for the security (guards and electronics) is from plant maintenance, the base knowledge is nil to dangerous.

The problem is that all public institutions have never had their emergency preparedness program audited, and in most cases there is no program, it is based on the education departments regulations for fire emergencies.

History in Montreal is varied when it comes to violence in the work / education place, but the first known attack on persons in a work place was the 800 Dorchester, where Mr Meloche shot and killed two fellow workers back in the 70's. But this has not increased the security awareness of administrators, nor the unions which represent the workers. The best is John Doe public does not even give a shit, because if they did they would never go into areas where large groups congregate for entertainment, business, and education.

Sad situation, but humans love to hear that someone has taken some form of measures, thus they feel safe, look at aviation.....millions spent on bullshit, but it does baffle brains, so they have achieved what was the original task.....fool the general populace so that they feel safe.

It saddens me to be so pessimistic, but reality is not always a Nice thing......ask George Bush.

One such comfort zone here in Canada is the gun registry, everyone is up in arms against the government attempting to make changes, I have heard many talk-host / reporters saying that there should not be any changes to the law, because it is there to protect the public.....again bull-shit, the law only protects the bureaucracy, it has not prevented anything, 4 RCMP officers where shot dead in one incident, two more in another, and now Dawson, so tell me what has the law done for our protection, and besides, why have we not outlawed cars and trucks, there are more people who die per week, then in ten years of gun shots.

have a great day

If you were the person responsible for Security issues at Dawson College
in Montreal, what would you do to protect against a lone crazy gunman?

Is there anything that can help protect against these types of events in
a large public building like a College?

Your comments would be of interest....

Take Care

Fergus
