Hi, I read with interest the UNESCO/IUGS IGCP Proyect 433 articles
recently published by the group in Geologica Acta. However, I couldn't
find a reconstruction of the Caribbean plate paleogeographics ca. 3 to
2 Ma. The closure of the Panama Isthmus and the Caribbean Seaway
occurred around 2.7 Ma according to calcareous nannofossil datums. But
what exactly transpired around this time? How the closure happened
precisely, what where the last tectonic and/or magmatic activities
involved?
My second question if I may: When was the Florida peninsula rifted?
The Aptian reconstruction by J. Pindell et al 2006 is a bit too
technical (I am not a geologist). THANKS
